Siena Heights Basketball Defends Home Court, Sweep UM-Dearborn

Adrian, MI – Siena Heights University men’s and women’s basketball had a strong afternoon at the SHU Fieldhouse, sweeping UM-Dearborn Saturday. 96.5fm The Cave sister station 103.9fm WLEN carried both broadcasts.

Tester’s Big Afternoon Lifts Siena Men to WHAC Win…

The Siena Heights men earned a hard-fought WHAC win 71-66. Jonas Tester led the charge scoring for SHU with 27 points while Nate Houston III added 13. Off the bench, Danilo Rajlic added 11 rebounds.

SHU 6-17 (3-12) was in back-and-forth action early, until the Saints exploded offensively to end the half on an 18-8 run in the remaining 8:19 to take a 41-25 lead at halftime.

In the second half, SHU took their largest lead of the game up 17 points at the 14:15 mark in the second half. The Saints still held strong as they had a 14 point advantage up 62-48, until Michigan-Dearborn went on a 10-1 run in a quick span of 3:04 to cut the margin to five at 63-58. The Saints then converted at the charity stripe to secure the win.

On the afternoon, the Saints shot 43.6% from the field and 18.2% from behind the three-point line. The Saints also held a 48-39 rebound advantage.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 5, with a 7:30 p.m. EST game at Defiance in WHAC action.

Won Secures 1,000 Career Points and Lady Saints Thump UM-Dearborn…

E’Anna Won became the 14th Siena Heights women’s basketball player to record 1,000 career points as the Saints defeated Michigan-Dearborn, 81-38, in Saturday’s WHAC action at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Won finished with 16 points, pushing herself to 1,002 points as a Saint. Sarrinah Ajami added a double-double worth 18 points and 13 rebounds. Kanyla Tyler scored 11 points and Jam Thigpen totaled nine points and 12 rebounds.

SHU outscored Dearborn in all four quarters, taking a 28-10 lead through the first. Ajami had eight points and five rebounds in that opening stretch while Won compiled eight points, two assists, two rebounds and one steal.

Siena Heights (13-10, 10-5) will return to action Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. WHAC game at Defiance.
