Quick Turnaround for Girls Basketball District Champions as they Head to Regional Play Tonight

Tecumseh, MI – Three of the top girls basketball teams in the state of Michigan in their respective divisions captured district championships Friday night… Tecumseh, Blissfield, and Morenci.

They are back in action tonight for regional semifinal action, and 96.5fm The Cave will be in Tecumseh to carry the Indians game at 5:30pm.

Tecumseh Tops Madison to Win 3rd Straight District Title…

The Tecumseh Indians girls basketball team came home with their third consecutive district title after defeating fellow Lenawee County school, Madison, 55-24. The Tecumseh defense held the Trojan’s Jaeda Parrish to 7 points in the contest. Mari Carbajl-Fuente and Nevaeh Parrish each had 4 for Madison.

Tecumseh was led offensively by sisters Alli and Addi Zajac, who finished with 14 and 12 points respectively. Ashlyn Moorehead ended the contest with 7 points. The Indians will be in the regional round of the MHSAA tournament this afternoon at home vs. Carleton Airport at 5:30pm. 96.5fm The Cave will be there, with John Koehn on the play-by-play. Royals Crowned Again; Blissfield Defends Home Court and Captures 4th Consecutive District Title… 

Blissfield Coach Ryan Gilbert told 96.5fm The Cave that the Royals played their best game of the season Friday night in their 57-42 win over Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central. Peyton Tennant led Blissfield in scoring with 15 while ripping down 12 rebounds. DeMya Gibbons had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Royals, with Leigh Wyman contributing 11 points and 10 assists.

Blissfield will play in a regional semifinal against Jonesville at 5:30pm in Jonesville.

Battle of the Bulldogs Goes to Morenci, Along With Second Straight District Final Win…

The Morenci Bulldogs strong 2024-25 campaign continued Friday night at home, securing a district championship over Petersburg-Summerfield 50-46. The Bulldogs were paced by Colbie Ekins with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Evelyn Joughin had 14 points at 7 boards, with Emersyn Bachelder chipping in 13 points.

The Bulldogs head to Whitmore Lake today to play the host school in a regional semifinal at 5:30pm.

Onsted Wildcats Postseason Run Ends With Loss to Jonesville…

The Onsted Wildcats girls basketball team was seeking their first district championship since the mid-1990’s, but came up just short against Jonesville, 55-46. Hannah Hill was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, with 19 points. Kayla Gerken finished with 12 points. Onsted’s season ends with a 16-8 overall record, and a 10-4 mark in the LCAA (good enough for 3rd place)
