Adrian, MI – The Siena Heights University baseball team completed the weekend sweep over Michigan-Dearborn, scoring dozens of runs over the four games.
Game one: Siena Heights 11, Michigan-Dearborn 6 (Saturday)
Gino Hutchinson led the Saints at-bat going 4 for 4 at the plate. On the mound, Luc Olson pitched the first three innings forcing three strikeouts. Matt Love was credited for the win forcing five strikeouts.
In the top of the first inning Michigan-Dearborn jumped out to a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Adam Wilding hit double RBI, sending Gino Hutchinson home. To end the first, Brock Olmstead hit a RBI double to send Adam Wilding home. In the bottom of the third as the Saints found themselves down 3-2, Thomas Bakoway hit a RBI triple to send Cole VanWasshenova home. The Saints continued their hot play in the third inning as Nick Tiller hit a RBI double sending Thomas Bakoway home, and Gino Hutchinson hit a double-RBI as Cole Mason scored as the Saints found themselves up 7-3.
In the fouth inning Michigan-Dearborn pulled to within one at 7-6 after a three RBI homerun. In the bottom of the fourth, Brock Olmstead hit a RBI-double to send Kenny Layman home. Later in the at-bat, Gino Hutchinson hit a two-RBI double to send Nick Tiller and Thomas Bakoway home to go up 11-6 to seal the victory in game one.
Game two: Siena Heights 19, Michigan-Dearborn 13 (Saturday)
Adam Wilding led the Saints at-bat going 3-for-6 at the plate. On the mound, Brandon Biggerstaff forced three strikeouts. Following Biggerstaff, Shilo Bernal Jr. forced two strikeouts, and Christian Smolen forced one. Garrett Smith was the winning pitcher in game two sorcing five strikeouts.
In the top of the first, Michigan-Dearborn jumped out to a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, Cole VanWasshenova hit an RBI double to send Gino Hutchinson home to pull SHU to within one at 2-1. Later in the at-bat, Brock Olmstead hit an RBI double to send VanWasshenova home. To end the first the Saints scored on Wild Pitches and Balks to go up 5-2.
In the top of the second, Michigan-Dearborn scored four unanswered runs to regain the lead at 6-5. In the top of the third, Michigan-Dearborn continued to score as they went up 9-6. The next scoring play for the Saints was setup by Adam Wilding after hitting a single two-RBI to send Brayden Hill home to tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the third inning. To end the third, Cole VanWasshenova hit a Sacrafice fly to center field to send Gino Hutchinson home.
In the fifth inning, Michigan-Dearborn tied the game again at 11-11. That was until the bottom of the fifth inning when Aidan Grinstead hit an RBI single to send Kenny Layman home. After that score, Nick Tiller hit an infield home run to put the Saints up 14-11 after the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth, Michigan-Dearborn hit a two-run homerun to pull within one at 14-13. In the bottom of the sixth, Kenny Layman hit a two-RBI triple sending both VanWasshenova and Wilding home. Later in the sixth, Grinstead hit a double-RBI to send both Olmstead and Layman home. After all the scoring in game two, the Saints came out victorious to win 19-13.
Game Three: Siena Heights 9, Michigan-Dearborn 1 (Sunday)
Leading the Saints at-bat was Thomas Bakoway, going 3-for-4 at bat. On the mound, Chase Molnar pitched for all seven innings forcing six strikeouts and was credited for the win.
In the bottom of the first, Cole VanWasshenova hit an RBI double to send Gino Hutchinson home. Later in the at-bat, Thomas Bakoway hit a RBI single to send VanWasshenova home.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kenny Layman hit a RBI double to send VanWasshenova home to go up 5-0. In the top of the fifth, Michigan-Dearborn homered to score their only run of the game to pull within four at 5-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Nick Tiller hit a RBI-double to send Thomas Bakoway home. Later in the at-bat, Brayden Hill hit an RBI double to send Nick Tiller home. To round out the scoring for the Saints, Jacob Jackson hit a two run home run to send VanWasshenova home.
Game Four: Siena Heights 26, Michigan-Dearborn 5 (Sunday)
Leading the Saints at-bat in game two was Adam Wilding and Cole Mason going 3-for-3 at the plate. On the mound, Kenny Layman pitched four innings forcing four strikeouts. To pitch the final inning was Aidan Nighswander, who forced one strikeout. In game two, the Saints batted around twice in the first and third innings. In the fourth and sixth innings, the Saints sent nine batters to the plate.
In the first inning the Saints scored eight runs as Michigan-Dearborn struggled with balks and errors. On the earned runs, Jacob Jackson hit a two RBI double to send VanWasshenova and Matt Love home. To end the inning, Adam Wilding hit a RBI double to center field to go up 8-0.
In the second and third innings, Michigan-Dearborn hit two home runs to trail 8-2. In the bottom of the third, Gino Hutchinson hit a two RBI single to send Cole Mason and Nick Tiller home to go up 10-2. Later in the at-bat, Wilding doubled to left center to send Gino Hutchinson home to go up 11-2. The Saints kept piling on as Michigan-Dearborn continued to struggle as the Saints found themselves up 14-2 after three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Jacob Jackson homered to left center to go up 20-2 at the bottom of the fourth inning. To end the scoring for the Saints came in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Cole VanWasshenova hit a home-run to win 26-5.
The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, April 24th at both 4&7 PM against University of Northwestern (Ohio).
