Adrian, MI – The Adrian College softball team hosted #1 Trine University for an MIAA conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening. The Bulldogs battled, but dropped both games.

It was a beautiful day for softball in Adrian Tuesday afternoon. In game one the Thunder jumped on the Bulldogs early scoring 4 runs in the first two innings. After a 5th Trine run scored, Adrian’s Karson Bagelmann scored on a single from Maggie Leveille in the bottom of the fourth making it 5-1 in favor of Trine. Trine and Adrian both were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Macee Schang took the loss in the circle, going the distance while allowing 11 hits and striking out eight batters.

Game two was a classic pitching duel between Adrian’s Abbi Patton and Trine’s Alexis Michon. Neither team scored a run in the first three innings of action. The Thunder struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run home run.

The Bulldogs plated their first run of the game in the top of the sixth, with Bagelmann reaching first with a base hit… and advanced all the way to third base off an error from Trine. Taylor Gerhardt picked up an RBI on a groundout to second base, cutting the lead to 2-1. Adrian in the top of the seventh needed one run to stay alive and they did just that. Pinch hitter Peyton Russell crushed a solo home run to left center field to tie the game up, 2-2.

In the bottom of the seventh, with Trine runners on third and second with two outs, Adrian decided to intentionally walk Trine’s Debbie Hill to load the bases, but they had to pitch around her in order for her to receive the walk.

On its way to being the fourth ball… a wild pitch occurred and the runner from third slid into home and the Thunder defeated the Bulldogs 3-2.

Bagelmann, Russell, Meghan Lupu, and Hailey DeChalk all recorded a hit in game two for Adrian. Abbi Patton ended the game throwing 115 pitches in the loss. Patton allowed six hits while striking out two. Both games Tuesday were broadcasted on 96.5fm The Cave.
