No. 6 Adrian College NCAA Women’s Hockey Sweep South Carolina Weekend

North Charleston, S.C. – No. 6 Adrian College NCAA Women’s Hockey spent the New Year’s Holiday Weekend in South Carolina, and are coming home with a pair of wins.

The Bulldogs picked up two victories over NESCAC opponents, defeating Williams on Saturday, 5-1 and later defeating Bowdoin 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. Adrian will enter the New Year with an 11-2 record. The weekend of games was at the home rink of the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays.

On Sunday…

Adrian scored first in the opening period on a goal from Karmen Anderson to lead 1-0. Adrian led in shots after 20 minutes of play out shooting the Polar Bears, 19-1. In the second period, Une Bjelland scored a goal for Adrian to lead 2-0. Bowdoin answered back before the end of the period to make it a one goal game entering the third. Bowdoin tied the game up in the third period to force the five-minute overtime.

After a back-and-forth overtime battled, Callie Wollschlager passed the puck out from behind the net to find Bjelland for the game winner with under a minute to play.

Adrian totaled 52 shots on goal while Bowdoin collected 15. During the two-game weekend, the Bulldogs played clean hockey earning just one penalty during the two games.

Annie Gilbert picked up her second win of the weekend on Sunday where she finished the day with 13 saves.

On Saturday…

After a battle through the first two periods, Adrian came alive in the third netting four goals to beat Williams College 5-1.

The first period was scoreless for both sides before being broken 18 seconds into the second period on a goal from Jocelin Hudanish. Late in the second period, Williams tied the game at 1-1 heading into the third. In the third period, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Kathryn Truban. Une Bjelland made a highlight play shooting the puck from behind the net and off the goaltender’s helmet into the net to lead 3-1. Late in the third, Williams pulled its goaltender allowing Bjelland to score and empty net goal which was followed by another empty netter from Nicole Pietrucha.

Truban, Tia Lascelle, Gia Avalone, Karmen Anderson, and Maya Roy all recorded assists in the game. Annie Gilbert got the start in goal for the Bulldogs where she finished the day with 17 saves. As a team, Adrian out shot Williams, 51-18.

Up Next…

The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, January 6th in Toledo, Ohio where they will play Trine University in a non-conference contest at the Huntington Center, home of the ECHL Toledo Walleye. Puck drop for Saturday is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
