Lake Placid, NY – The Adrian College offense did not disappoint. The No.1 Adrian College Bulldogs averaged about 6 goals per game this season, and they neared that total Friday afternoon, in the NCAA DIII Men’s Hockey Semifinal game vs. No.4 Augsburg University.

Both teams went back and forth for the first portion of the first period, with neither team scoring, but the Bulldogs generating opportunities. The first tally of the contest came with just under three minutes remaining in the opening period, when Sam Ruffin scored for AC. Less than two minutes later, a second goal would be scored, this time off the stick of Trevor Coykendall. Adrian would carry the 2-0 lead into the locker room.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, with excellent goaltending on both ends of the ice. Adrian’s netminder, Cam Gray, made 10 of his 20 saves on the day in the second period…including key stops when the Auggies had a 5-3 power play.

Augsburg scored their lone goal in the third period, making the tally 2-1 with about 15 minutes left in the game. The Adrian offense sealed the deal when Zach Goberis scored Adrian’s third goal two minutes later. Two empty-net goals for the Bulldogs…by Hunter Wendt and Goberis…sent Adrian College to the championship game Saturday night against either SUNY Geneseo or University of New England.
