Adrian, MI – On Sunday afternoon, the Adrian women’s hockey team, once again, shutout Aurora University and clinched the 2021-22 Kronschnabel Trophy as the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association’s (NCHA) regular-season champion.

Sophie Goldberg followed up her clean sheet effort on Saturday night with another solid performance between the pipes for the Bulldogs (16-6-1, 13-1-0 NCHA), stopping a weekend-high 19 shots.

On offense, Maya Roy and Abbie Grias each provided one goal, while Karmen Anderson, Callie Wollschlager and Kaleigh Cadorette chipped in a single assist apiece.

In the middle frame, the black and gold garnered one of their 12 powerplay opportunities of the weekend, and this time they took full advantage. A battle for the puck near the corner was eventually won by Anderson and fed to Wollschlager, who sent a pass to the point where Roy was waiting. The sophomore wound up and ripped a whistling slap shot that beat everyone on its way to the back of the net.

Later on in the period, the visitors earned a chance to draw the contest level, courtesy of a pair of Adrian penalties, but the ‘Dogs’ defense stood strong and kept the Spartans searching for answers.

The critical defensive stand ultimately led to the home side’s second goal in the final period. This lamp-lighter resulted from a mad scramble in front of the Aurora netminder, and out of the all the chaos, Grias managed to push past all the traffic for a Bulldog insurance goal.

Goldberg and the rest of the local’s defense held true from that point on, marking Adrian’s fifth shutout victory in its last six outings.

With the top seed in the upcoming Slaats Cup Playoffs locked up, the Bulldogs secure home-ice advantage throughout its entirety.

The 2021-22 regular-season for the women will conclude on February 18 and 19 when St. Norbert visits the Arrington Ice Arena. The action drops at 3 p.m. on Friday, then finishes with “Senior Day” on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m.
