Lenawee County – We have reached the half-way point of the Lenawee Virtual Diamond League season, so we think it’s fitting to give the teams a break this week. This All-Star break will give coaches and players a chance to make needed changes and recharge for the upcoming playoff push.

A great slate of games took place since our last update! Here’s what happened:

Wednesday, June 24 – Britton-Deerfield vs Lenawee Christian An impressive offensive output by the Britton-Deerfield Patriots gave them a 7-3 win over the Cougars, their first of the LVDL season. Kristen Zilla and Eric Johnson both homered for BD. Emile Beech and Doug Mattson hit home runs for Lenawee Christian.

Thursday, June 25 – Clinton vs Madison A stellar pitching performance by starters Marla Erickson (Clinton) and Chris Dubbs (Madison) kept batters at-bay last Thursday night. Madison out-hit Clinton 6-3, but lost the game 2-0. Casey Randolph scored in the first inning off of a 2-out single by Al Reigner. Joe Gillies double in the fourth inning to score Steve DeGood. Erickson pitched a complete game shut-out, striking out seven, walking one, and giving up 6 hits.

Saturday, June 27 – Hudson vs Morenci In typical Hudson/Morenci fashion, this game lived up to the hype. Both teams were 2-1 coming into the game, and extra innings would decide the winner. A three-run home run in the top of the 8th inning by Burke Hart was the difference in Hudson’s 5-2 win Saturday afternoon.

What is the LVDL?

With the absence of high school spring sports in Michigan, many people have turned to the virtual world. The staff at 96.5fm, The Cave has created the Lenawee Virtual Diamond League (LVDL) featuring local high schools. Each game is seven innings long, plus extras if needed.

There is a 48 game regular season schedule, with each of the 12 teams playing 8 games each. There will be four games aired weekly on 96.5 The Cave: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays at 6pm… and Saturday afternoons at 2pm through the week of August 10th. After the 12 week season, there will be playoffs to determine a champion.

Rosters include teachers, staff, administration, and others to represent Lenawee County High Schools on the diamond.
