Cave Stadium Lenawee County, MI – We are just underway with Week 6 of the Lenawee Virtual Diamond League, so let’s get an update. Each team has had an opportunity to show what they can do on the diamond. Some have impressed, and others have yet to prove themselves.

So here’s a quick summary of every game for the month of June so far, and the updated standings:

6/2 Britton-Deerfield vs Morenci The Bulldogs took advantage of a three run second inning on their was to a 4-2 win over the Patriots. DS Johnson & Associates player of the game, Kelsey DuPuis went 2-three with two runs scored. Renae Schaffner pitched 5 innings for Morenci, with Doug Rupp and Erica Metcalf coming in for relief. For BD, Ron Schmidt went 1-3 with a two-run home run in the 4th inning.

6/3 Adrian vs Tecumseh The first of two regular season games between the two Lenawee County rivals saw the Indians come away with a 6-2 win over the Maples. Tecumseh was backed by an incredibly strong outing from their starting pitcher, Kristi Zajak. She went 7 innings (a complete game). Zajak surrendered 5 hits, 2 earned runs, and 3 strike outs. Kyle Johnson was on the hill for Adrian, going 2.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 earned runs.

6/4 Clinton vs Onsted Kim Phillip was stellar on the mound in Clinton’s 6-0 win over Onsted. Sue Cornish hit a two run home run for the Redskins, giving them a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Two more runs would score later in the inning off the bat of Lee Smither.

6/6 Madison vs Sand Creek These two teams clashed for an epic extra inning affair, resulting in a 7-5 Trojan win. Both teams scored the majority of their runs in the 9th inning (there are 7 innings in a regulation LVDL game). Chris Dubbs (Madison) and Sid Disbrow (Sand Creek) were the starting pitchers in the contest. There was clutch hitting for Madison in the 9th inning from Eric Thompson and Wade Perry.

6/9 Addison vs Tecumseh A low-scoring game between the Addison Panthers and Tecumseh Indians went extra innings, with Addison coming away with a 3-2 win. The Panthers were lead by Dylan Klee, who went 2-3 with a double, home run, and two runs scored. Mark Beougher also hit a home run for Addison. For Tecumseh, Carrie Schmidt was 3-3 with a single, double, and home run… scoring both of the Indians runs.

6/10 Blissfield vs Onsted The Onsted Wildcats bested the Blissfield Royals 4-2. A three-run home run in the fifth inning by Alison Kotz was the offensive jolt the Wildcats needed to get the win. Two solo home runs for the Royals was their only source of offense, as Ryan Gilbert and Ron Estes went yard.

6/11 Britton-Deerfield vs Sand Creek A dominating performance from the Aggies gave Sand Creek a much-needed 5-0 win over the Patriots. A three-run homer in the second inning by Steve Guerra and a two-run shot from Ryan Shadewald was all the scoring that the Aggie starting pitcher, Sid Disbrow would need.

6/13 Adrian vs Lenawee Christian The Adrian Maples starting pitcher Kyle Johnson carried the Maples to their first win of the Lenawee Virtual Diamond League season, pitching 6 strong innings. Adrian scored three runs in the first inning after hitting four straight singles off of Lenawee Christian Starting pitcher Tyler Reed. The Cougars scored one in the third and one in the 6th inning, but it would not be enough as the Maples won 4-2.

6/16 Clinton vs Hudson Hudson’s Scott Marry made the emergency start because Lance Horwath experienced tightness in his throwing arm in warm-ups. He pitched his way to be the DS Johnson and Associates Player of the Game following Hudson’s 4-1 win. Kim Phillip scored the lone run for Clinton, hitting a home run in the fourth inning. Burke Hart homered for Hudson in the 6th.

6/17 Madison vs Morenci Morenci jumped out in front of Madison early, en route to a resounding 10-1 win. Eric Thompson took the loss for the Trojans, and Rene Schaffner got the win for Morenci. Michele Reincke hit a monster home run in the first frame for the Bulldogs.

6/18 Addison vs Sand Creek The Addison Panthers got the better of the Sand Creek Aggies in an extremely competitive game, 5-3. The Panthers benefited from 3 home runs by Josh Gietek, Mike Schwartz, and Josh Lindeman. The Aggies had RBI’s from Matt Benge, Wayne Perry, and Robert Wright.

6/20 Adrian vs Onsted The Adrian Maples evened their season record to 2-2 following their 7-1 win over the Onsted Wildcats. The player of the game, JR Hayden, hit two home runs accounting for 6 of the Maple runs in the game… a grand slam in the 5th inning and a two run shot in the 7th inning. Ronda Papenhagen scored the lone Onsted run off the bat of Matt Randall in the third inning.

6/23 Blissfield vs Tecumseh It’s not every day that someone hits a walk-off grand slam, but with that being said…we had one in this game! In the bottom of the 8th inning (regulation games are 7 innings), Greg Dolson went yard to give Tecumseh the 4-1 win.
