Adrian, MI – Here are the Lenawee County stories from Thursday’s Inside the Cave Sports Update…

The results are in for the annual 96.5 The Cave O’Connor & Sons Floor Covering NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Challenge.

Mike Hardy was victorious, and will take home $96.50 cash and a $25 gift card to both Social House 103 and Full Swing Sports.

2nd place was Brian Kelham, and he won a $25 gift card to both Social House 103 and Full Swing Sports.

Blissfield, Hudson, and Madison squared off in Track and Field.

On the boys side…Blissfield topped Hudson 98-38, Madison beat Hudson 109-28, and Madison downed Blissfield 87-50.

Madison’s De’Lante Garrison broke the school record in the High Jump with a leap of 6′ 4″. The old record of 6′ 3″ was set by Justin Traxler in 2003. De’Lante also won the 200 Dash and ran on the winning 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays.

Madison’s Nathan Mullins broke the school record in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.16, besting the old record set by Justin Traxler in 2003. Mullins also ran on the winning 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays.

Madison’s Trenton Fetter won the 800, 1600, and 3200 runs while also running on the winning 4 x 800 relay. Trojan Derrell Tillman picked up wins in the Long Jump, 4 x 100, and 4 x 200 relays.

Madison’s Bryson Ballantyne picked up wins in the 400 Dash, 4 x 200, and 4 x 800 relays. Blissfield’s Braedyn Tennant picked up wins in the 300 Hurdles and 4 x 400 relay. Royal Iain Gilmore placed 1st in the 100 Dash and 4 x 400 relay.

On the girls side… Blissfield topped Hudson 97-40, Madison beat Hudson 85.5-51.5, and Blissfield downed Madison 77-60.

Hudson’s Naika Rath won the 100, 200, and 400 dashes. Blissfield’s Hope Miller won the 800 and 1600 runs while placing 2nd in the 400 Dash and 1st in the 4 x 400 relay.

Royal Hailey Sills took 1sts in the 3200 run, and 4 x 800 Relay. Madison’s Iyana Borders won the Shot Put and Discus. Trojans Taelee LaVassaur, Nevaeha Love, and Kalexiana Wrest took 1sts in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays.

The Siena Heights baseball team had two comeback victories to earn a sweep of WHAC opponent Defiance earlier this week at McLaughlin Baseball Field…14-13 and 13-10.

The Saints rallied for three runs in the seventh to walk off the Yellow Jackets 14-13. The game ended on a sacrifice fly by Jack Semler, who finished with six RBIs.

Semler batted 3-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, and three runs scored. Mac Melvin went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.

Pearson Mendiuk was the winning pitcher, finishing the contest off with 1 and 2/3 scoreless innings, and two strikeouts.

SHU faced four-run deficits four different times before scoring the game’s final five runs.

The Saints answered a 6-0 deficit to come back for the Game 2 win. Pablo Arnaud batted 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

Nolan Gray was the winning pitcher, working two innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts and three walks.

The Adrian College men’s lacrosse team battled back from multiple deficits and briefly took a fourth-quarter lead, but a late run by Calvin lifted the Knights to a 14-10 victory on Wednesday.

Braeden McNamara and Trace Tidswell led Adrian with three goals apiece, while David Harrison added two. Alec Winegar paced the offense with four points. Defensively, Adrian goalkeeper Josiah Karnehm recorded 10 saves in the full 60-minute effort.

Adrian is now 1-4 in conference play, and will host non-conference opponent Colorado College at Noon.

The Adrian College women’s tennis team returned to conference action on Wednesday afternoon on the road at Saint Mary’s College, losing 7-0 to the Belles.

AC lost every singles match, but the duo of Claire Earley and Hye Jin Elliott picked up a win in doubles competition.

The Bulldogs will return to action at home on Saturday, hosting Hope College at 1PM.
