Adrian, MI – Here are the local stories from Tuesday’s brief Inside the Cave Sports Update…

The Siena Heights baseball team bounced back with a pair of WHAC victories over Lawrence Tech at the McLaughlin Baseball Diamond, winning 5-3 and 14-5.

In Game One…

The Saints came back from a 3-1 deficit, taking the lead for good on a two-run single by Mac Melvin in the fifth inning.

Kaleb Woods finished 2-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and one run. Jaozef Del Rosario had a double during the fifth-inning comeback.

Josh Floyd opened on the mound for Siena Heights, working a scoreless inning. Garret Smith went the next six frames to earn the win, allowing two earned runs in six hits while totaling six strikeouts and one walk.

In Game Two…

SHU finished out the weekend series with a 14-hit performance. Del Rosario led the way, going 3-for-3 with a double, one walk and four RBI.

Mason Mitchell was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Melvin, Braxton Mustiful and Brady Belegrin added two-hit games. Jack Semler tripled.

Pearson Mendiuk was the winning pitcher, working the first six innings. He gave up three runs on five hits while finishing with four strikeouts and two walks.

Evan Demsey finished up on the mound, allowing two runs on five hits while recording four strikeouts and one walk.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced the Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon with two members of the Adrian College women’s Lacrosse team earning honors.

Ava Lazzareschi was named women’s lacrosse defensive player of the week, while Madeline Turcotte earned women’s lacrosse specialist of the week.

Lazzareschi once again led the Bulldogs defensively in their 2-0 week which included a 24-9 victory over Augustana and a 20-4 win at Alma in the conference opener. Over the two contests, Lazzareschi totaled eight caused turnovers and seven ground balls. She is currently tied-for-fifth in the conference with 14 ground balls this season.

Turcotte delivered a stellar week in the circle, helping Adrian to wins over Augustana and Alma. She recorded 16 draw controls across the two games while also contributing eight goals, five assists, and six ground balls. Turcotte currently leads the conference with 6.78 draw controls per game.

Both Lazzareschi and Turcotte will be back in action with their squads on Wednesday at Kalamazoo College for a 5PM opening draw.

The Adrian College cornhole team hosted a home tournament over the weekend inside the Sweebe Indoor Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs recorded two top-three finishes in the Singles Tournament, claimed both first and second in Doubles, and captured the Team Event title.

Abbie Sawicki led the way for Adrian with a second-place finish in the Singles bracket. Along the way, she defeated top ACL collegiate players, including fellow Bulldog and ACL National Champion Alex Weaver, as well as Tyler Davis of Oklahoma State. Zac Blaylock also earned a podium finish for Adrian, placing third in Singles.

In the Doubles Tournament, Abigail Trepkowski and Ethan Freeman claimed the championship, defeating teammates Aidan Sicilia and Zac Blaylock, who finished as runners-up to give the Bulldogs a 1-2 finish.

Adrian capped off the day with a victory in the Team Event, as the group of Sawicki, Trepkowski, Freeman, and Weaver took first place in a six-team field.

The Bulldogs return to action April 24-26 when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in an ACL Open.
