Adrian, MI – More Lenawee County teams played on Thursday than on Wednesday night. Here are the highlights from Friday’s Sports Update…

The Blissfield boys bowling team took-down LCAA foe Onsted on Thursday, 19-11.

Here are some notable scores from the individual rounds for the Royals…

Matthew Anderson threw a 235
Preston Iffland had a 213
Cayden Swift had two 200–plus games… 204 and 211
Jon Cheney also had two 200–plus games… 201 and 232

Blissfield will be in action Sunday at 5pm for a Jamboree at Ten Pin, in Tecumseh.

The Adrian high school boys swim and dive team downed Dundee, 116-61.

The Lenawee Christian girls basketball team downed Tri-County Conference opponent Sand Creek 53-17 on Thursday night.

Brynn Davis led the Cougars with 21 points. London Schmid poured in 15 points, with Hattie Fansler scoring 10 points and securing 13 rebounds.

Nichelson had 9 for the Aggies.

The Madison boys basketball team grabbed a LCAA win over Hillsdale on Thursday, 56-41.

Cole Grof paced the Trojans with 14 points
Brooks Horwath also scored in double figures, with 12

The Onsted boys basketball team continued their undefeated start to the season after downing Ida on Thursday night, 42-33. The Wildcats are 13-0 overall, and 7-0 in the Lenawee County Athletic Association.

The Morenci girls basketball team stays unbeaten thanks to their 55-24 victory over Pittsford on Thursday night.

Colbie Ekins erupted for 17 points and 9 rebounds. Addyson Valentine scored 13 points for the Bulldogs.

Evelyn Joughin had 11 for Morenci, who will be at Columbia Central on Tuesday.

The Britton-Deerfield girls basketball team suffered a 69-21 loss to TCC foe Summerfield on Thursday night. Dotson led the Patriots with 8 points.

Let’s take a look at some of the early contenders for high school basketball League races so far. Heading into Friday’s action, here are the Lenawee County teams near the top:

In the Lenawee County Athletic Association boys standings…
Onsted leads the pack with a 7-0 record, with Madison not far behind at 5-2.

In the Tri-County Conference boy standings…
Lenawee Christian remains perfect at 4-0. The Britton-Deerfield Patriots are in fourth place, at 2-2 in league play.

The two South Eastern Conference White Division teams in Lenawee are near the bottom of the league right now. Adrian is 4th with a 3-2 SEC White record, and Tecumseh is 5th with a 1-2 mark.

In the LCAA girls side of things…
The Blissfield Royals are 5-0, with Onsted and Madison on their heels with 3-1 records. Hudson checks-in with a 3-2 mark.

The Morenci Bulldogs and Lenawee Christian Cougars are both undefeated in TCC play. LCS is 4-0, while Morenci is 3-0.

Tecumseh leads the SEC White on the girls side, sitting at 3-0. The Adrian girls have a 3-1 mark, tied with Chelsea heading into play on Friday.

The American Baseball Coaches Association presented Adrian College NCAA baseball head coach Craig Rainey with the Lifetime Membership Award at the recent ABCA National Convention.

Rainey enters his 33rd season as head coach of the Bulldogs and owns a career record of 843-510, a .623 winning percentage.

The winningest coach in MIAA history, Rainey has guided Adrian to 16 Regular Season Championships, 11 Tournament Championships, 17 NCAA Regional appearances, one NCAA Super Regional appearance, and two NCAA Division 3 College World Series appearances.

Rainey has coached 18 All-Americans…and has coached five players who signed professional contracts: Ryan Dorow with the Texas Rangers, Tommy Parsons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Dugan Darnell with the Colorado Rockies, Mo Hanley with the Los Angeles Angels, and Pierce Banks with the Minnesota Twins.

Rainey has also served as Adrian College’s Director of Athletics since July 2022.

Adrian College NCAA women’s hockey hits the local airwaves for the first time this season, as the Bulldogs are in Lake Forest, Illinois to battle NCHA foe Foresters.

The Bulldogs are currently 8-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play, tied with Concordia University-Wisconsin. Lake Forest is 6-2 in NCHA play and are fourth place in the league.

Adrian is ranked 7th in the nation in the latest USCHO.com poll.

The Bulldogs are anchored by sophomore goalkeepers, Kiera Stack, who has a 10-4 record including 5 shutouts and only allows just under 1.3 goals per game. The offense is paced by Riley Johnson with 13 goals and 7 assists. Paige Pomerleau also has 20 points on the year, with 10 of those points being goals.

Adrian College is 34-12-1 all-time against the Foresters, has won the last 7 meetings between the two schools, but is only 10-10-1 on the road.

Friday’s game will begin at 8pm, Saturday’s game at 3pm on 96.5 The Cave and 965thecave.com, with Ian Wendt on the call.
