
Adrian, MI – Here are the local highlights from Monday’s Inside the Cave Sports Update…

The Adrian Maples boys and Blissfield Royals girls cross country teams captured the Lenawee County Championship over the weekend.
On the boys side, Tecumseh took second…followed by Blissfield, Madison, Onsted, Sand Creek, Clinton, and Hudson.
Adrian’s Moises Salazar Jr. won the event, followed by Michael Weidmayer from Blissfield, Trenton Fetter from Madison, Parker Smith from Adrian, and Eli Morris from Tecumseh…rounding out the top five.
Chris Durfey took 10th, leading the way for Onsted. Sand Creek’s Silas Daniels took 16th, Clinton’s Haiden Bennett was 19th, LCS’s Jacob Tatsak was 24th, Hudson’s Blake Aube was 29th, Addison’s Tony Gudakunst took 36th, Morenci’s David Bauer finished 44th, BD’s Andrew Calvert was 55th, and homeschooler Justin Boley was 63rd.
On the girls side, Adrian took second behind Blissfield…followed by Tecumseh, Onsted, Hudson, and the Lenawee Homeschool team.
Blissfield’s Hope Miller won the event, followed by Ayda Skeels and Madison Petty from Adrian, then Hailey Sills and Anna Hallett from Blissfield…rounding out the top five.
Annabelle Czeiszperger took 10th, leading the way for Hudson. Onsted’s Raegan Brosamer took 10th, Madison’s Haleigh Summers was 24th, Addison’s Ellie Woodring was 26th, Homeschooler Chloe Ruse took 27th, and Sand Creek’s Julianna Tanner was 35th.
Britton-Deerfield and Lenawee Christian had no girls runners in the Lenawee County Championships.

The Adrian Maples volleyball team participated in a tournament over the weekend… ultimately losing in the semi final round.
In pool play, Adrian came out strong against Hudson, sweeping the match 25-22, 25-14, and 25-13. The Maples then lost to Hanover-Horton, 23-25, 8-25, 18-25.
After dropping the first set in bracket play, 19-25, Adrian bounced back with a 25-17 win and sealed the victory in a nail-biting third set, 16-14 over Grass Lake. The Maples fell to Parma Western in the semis, 25-27, 18-25.

The Siena Heights football team suffered another close loss this weekend, 26-20 to Saint Xavier.
Brendan Haisenleder had a pair of rushing touchdowns while defenders Devan James and Markel Main had two takeaways each.
Braylen Himmelein completed 20 of 45 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. Haisenleder carried the ball 14 times for 42 yards.
Clarke Hamilton led the defense with 11 tackles, including a sack. The Saints will return to action Saturday, with a 12 p.m. home game against Lawrence Tech.

SHU Men’s soccer lost 6-0 on the road against ranked WHAC conference opponent, #23 ranked Northwestern Ohio on Saturday.

The Adrian College women’s soccer team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to face conference foe Saint Mary’s College in an MIAA matchup, where the Bulldogs rolled to a 4-0 victory.
The Bulldogs erupted for four unanswered goals in the second half, beginning in the 52nd minute when Delany Batur gave Adrian the 1-0 lead. In the 78th minute, AC’s Zoe Greenbaum doubled the advantage off a feed from Victoria Siegan.
Alanna Earl added another goal to make it 3-0 with an assist from Samantha Guciardo and Isobel Malcolm capped off the dominant second half with an 86th-minute strike to seal the 4-0 victory.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday, where they will host Trine University at 7 PM.

The Adrian College men’s soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw on the road against Kalamazoo College on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, the action picked up quickly after the break. Kalamazoo opened the scoring in the 50th minute. Adrian responded in the 69th minute when Hadi Saad buried a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. Just over a minute later, the Hornets reclaimed the lead on a penalty goal.
The Bulldogs found the equalizer in the 85th minute when Dominic Kretschmer converted to make it 2-2. Adrian goalkeeper Eli Sizemore was strong between the posts, recording six saves on 18 shots faced.
The draw moves the Bulldogs to 3-9-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MIAA play. The Bulldogs will be back in action at home Wednesday against Albion for a 7pm kick off.

The Adrian College men’s tennis team lost to St. Francis University, Indiana 5-2 at home.

The Adrian College women’s golf team wrapped up its fall season at the MIAA Jamboree #4, hosted by Alma College on Saturday afternoon, finishing sixth overall.
Leading the Bulldogs was Savana Smith, who turned in a round of 3-over-par 75 to place sixth individually. Ainslee Hewitt and Rylie Yuhas followed closely behind, each carding an 80 to tie for 16th. Sami Burks rounded out Adrian’s top four with an 83, finishing 23rd overall.

The Adrian College women’s rugby team hit the road in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Indiana University in a duo of victories… 38-15 and 35-10.
Jersey Wilson and Madisyn McDonald led the offense, Wilson with four tries and McDonald with three tries and nine conversions.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, October 25th, when they host the Adrian 7’s Tournament against Taylor, Indiana, and Miami, Ohio.
