
Adrian, MI – It was a tale of two different series in the NCHA Quarterfinal for Adrian College hockey teams, with the women taking care of Trine University, and the men winning an OT thriller vs. Milwaukee School of Engineering Saturday night.
AC Women Outscore Thunder 19-1 in Two-Game Sweep…
The Adrian College NCAA women’s hockey team is heading to the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals after sweeping Trine University in the Quarterfinals. After dominating game one 7-0, the Bulldogs returned on Saturday to win 12-1, eliminating the Thunder.
Trine struck first… on the opening shift of the game, but Adrian’s Emma Simon scored quickly to even the score. The Bulldogs then added four more goals in the first period, courtesy of Karmen Anderson, All Hubenschmidt, and Zoe Lohrei. In the second period, Anderson netted her second goal of the game, and Tia Lascelle, Courtney Ben, Kathryn Truban, and Hunter Reardon all added to the growing lead. Ben and Lascelle each scored again in the third period, and Riley Johnson also found the back of the net.
Lascelle had a standout performance with two goals and two assists, while Johnson contributed three assists. Maya Roy also recorded three assists, and Annika Hanson and Callie Wollschlager each had two. In goal, Annie Gilbert recorded four saves in her victory, while Kiera Stack made seven saves. Adrian out-shot Trine 79-12 Saturday, and 78-5 on Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs will host the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinal Saturday, March 1st, at the Arrington Ice Arena vs. the Falcons of Concordia University-Wisconsin. The other conference semifinal will have Lake Forest at St. Norbert College.
Connor May OT Winner Sends Bulldogs to NCHA Semis…
The Adrian College men’s NCAA hockey team hosted MSOE on Saturday in game two of the NCHA Harris Cup Quarterfinals, after defeating the Engineers, 4-2, in game one on Friday night. Adrian suffered a 2-1 loss in game two Saturday, but advanced to the semifinal round after netting an overtime goal following a scoreless 20-minute game.
Frank Tafelski scored the lone, unassisted goal for the Bulldogs in game two at the Arrington.
After a scoreless opening 20-minute period of the add-on mini-game, the Bulldogs and Engineers moved on to sudden death overtime, with the winner moving on to the conference semifinal round. In the early stages of overtime, Ian Amsbaugh set up Connor May for a back door tap-in. Dershahn Stewart was solid in goal for the Bulldogs, holding off the Engineers and guiding his team to another Harris Cup semifinal appearance.
The Bulldogs visit top-seed Aurora University this Saturday, March 1st, with a berth in the NCHA Harris Cup Final on the line. Trine University will be at St. Norbert College in the other semifinal game.
