Saints Basketball Sweeps University of Michigan-Dearborn

Adrian, MI – The Siena Heights Saints Women’s and Men’s basketball teams picked up wins over WHAC opponent University of Michigan-Dearborn Wednesday night at the SHU Fieldhouse.

*Lady Saints Streak Extends to 13…

The Siena Heights women’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to 13 games with an 82-55 victory over the Wolverines. Eva Alcock was the Saints’ leading scorer with 16 points and six rebounds. Jillian Gelso added 15 points while Jakarri Alven finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Also for SHU (13-2, 8-1), Kayla Hinton grabbed eight rebounds and Olivia DeLong finished with two blocks and two steals. Siena Heights opened the game with a 14-point run and led the rest of the way. Five scorers contributed to the early run, including Alven, who deposited five points.

The Saints took a 40-19 lead into halftime and held a double-digit lead the remainder of the contest. Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with a 5 p.m. game against Lawrence Tech.

*Men Capture Third League Win With 100 Point Effort…

Colin Nutter led the Saints in scoring with 25 points, perfect from the floor, and came down with eight rebounds to lead the Saints to a 100-56 victory over UM-Dearborn. Along with Nutter, Jonny Bowers came off the bench and added 15 points along with nine rebounds.

The Saints (6-9, 3-6), trailed 12-6 in the first six minutes, then never looked back after they took the lead at 15-14 at the 10 minute mark, to then end up leading at halftime 37-24. In the second half, SHU continued to dominate of the defensive side as they held a 22-9 advantage in the early second half to ultimately put the final nail on the coffin. Graduate Assistant Coach Aaron Herbst said that ” I thought we competed hard, and have a big game on Saturday against Lawrence Tech, it starts on the defensive end. Our identity is defense first and we did a good job on getting out in transition tonight.”

On the floor, the Saints shot 58.6% from the floor, 31.6% from three, dominated the glass more than doubling the rebounds holding the advantage at 53-26. Defensively, the stifling Saints defense held Michigan-Dearborn to 27.1%, 29% from three, and forced 13 turnovers.

SHU will play next as Lawrence Tech will come to town on Saturday, January 13.
