Adrian, MI – Here are the local highlights from Wednesday’s Inside the Cave Sports Update…

Tune in tonight for a full slate of basketball games on the Lenawee MultiMedia Network of radio stations.

On 96.5 The Cave, John Koehn will head back to Tecumseh for a boys basketball playoff doubleheader. The Madison Trojans will battle top-seeded Michigan Center, and the Adrian Maples will take on Brooklyn-Columbia Central. Madison plays at 5:30pm, with the Maples in action at around 7pm.

On 95.3 WQTE, Ian Wendt will be in Grand Rapids for Siena Heights women’s basketball WHAC Tournament action. The Saints will battle Aquinas College beginning at 5:30pm.

A few boys basketball teams remain in the MHSAA playoffs in addition to Madison and Adrian.

In Manchester, Onsted will play Clinton at 5:30pm, then Blissfield will face host Manchester at around 7pm.

Hudson will battle Jonesville at 5:30pm in Hillsdale.

In Morenci, Lenawee Christian will face Britton-Deerfield at 5:30pm.

The Blissfield Royals made it an even 60 straight wins in the LCAA last night, downing Clinton in girls basketball action 49-37. Coach Ryan Gilbert’s 301st win was the Royals’ 18th this season, against just two losses.

Blissfield ends their conference slate 14-0. In the game against the Redwolves, Kaleea Braun and De’Mya Gibbons each had 13 points. Leigh Wyman had a double-double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hudson Tigers girls basketball team dominated Hillsdale on the road Tuesday night, 75-35…earning their 8th league win against 6 losses.

Macayle Grayer led the way with 17 points. Sam Anderson added 15 points, Maci Godfrey contributed 10, while Taylor Kopin finished with 10 points for the Tigers.

Ella Salenbien’s 15 points night led the Adrian girls basketball team to a 54-21 win over Ypsilanti Tuesday. Jazlynn Davis had a career high 11 points for the Maples.

Britton-Deerfield picked up a non-league win against Coldwater Pansophia Academy, 50-14 Tuesday night. Dotson led the way with 14 for the Patriots.

Karlie Kimerer scored her 1,000th career point on Tuesday, the 5th Onsted Wildcat to accomplish that feat, as the Cats beat LCAA foe Madison 31-24.

She finished the game with 12 points. Mattie Hallenbeck had 7 points and 12 rebounds.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the 2026 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to be nominated for the NAIA Scholar-Athlete, an individual must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport, and have attended one full year. Many students at Siena Heights University were represented:

Women’s Wrestling: Lillian Ruesink, Alexus Shaneyfelt, Cadence Wallace, and Phoenix Waters

Men’s Wrestling: Nolan McDowell, Brandon Rau, and Benjamin Westerlund
Men’s Basketball: Spencer Brown, Danilo Rajlic, and Jonas Tester
Men’s Bowling: Logan Cook, Paul Scheuher, and Jack Sisco

The Adrian College men’s basketball team traveled to Calvin University on Tuesday night to compete in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals, falling to the Knights 105-63.

Seth Logan led the Bulldogs with 13 points along with a team-high six rebounds. Gavin Saunders finished the game with ten points while Jeremiah Dallas and Jaden Smiley finished with nine.

The Bulldogs’ season comes to an end after another trip to the MIAA Tournament, finishing with a 6-20 overall record.

The Adrian College men’s lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening, falling 21-8 to Ohio Wesleyan University on the road.

Alec Winegar led Adrian offensively with three goals, while Trace Tidswell recorded two goals and two assists.

The 0-4 Bulldogs will host Wittenberg University at 1pm Saturday.

D3baseball.com released its Week 1 National Poll on Tuesday morning, and the Adrian College baseball team climbed six spots to Number 14 after opening the season 2-0.

The Bulldogs began the year ranked 20th in the Preseason Poll.

Adrian is coming off victories over No. 23 SUNY Brockport and RV University of Mount Union. The Bulldogs will begin their spring break trip to Alabama this weekend.

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced its postseason awards on Tuesday, and the Adrian College NCAA men’s hockey team was well represented.

Head coach Adam Phillips was named NCHA Coach of the Year in his second season behind the bench.

Forward Ian Amsbaugh earned All-Conference honors and was named the 2025-26 NCHA Player of the Year. Entering the Harris Cup Semifinals, Amsbaugh leads the team with 48 points on 12 goals and 36 assists. His 48 points rank first in NCAA Division III, and he sits third nationally in points per game.

Brad Somers also secured a spot on the NCHA All-Conference Team at forward, along with defenseman from Tecumseh, David Clarke. Nat Bannister was named to the NCHA All-Freshman Team.

The Bulldogs host Aurora University in the NCHA Harris Cup Semifinals Saturday at 3pm. Ian Wendt will have the game on 96.5 The Cave.

The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association announced its postseason awards for women’s hockey on Tuesday afternoon, and the Adrian College NCAA women’s hockey team was heavily represented.

Riley Johnson was named All-Conference and selected as the NCHA Co-Player of the Year. She tops the conference in points and assists while ranking second in goals. Nationally, Johnson ranks third in both points per game and assists per game.

Courtney Ben earned All-Conference honors after posting a team-high and conference leading 24 goals. Parker Beyer and Paige Pomerleau secured spots on the defensive All-Conference Team.

Kiera Stack claimed the goaltender spot on the All-Conference Team.

Maddy Loe was named to the NCHA All-Freshman Team at forward, with Sophia LaColla and Elizabeth Sturgeon earning All-Freshman Team honors on defense.

The Bulldogs will look to advance to the NCHA Slaats Cup Final this weekend as they host Lake Forest College in the semifinals on Saturday at 7pm. 96.5 The Cave will carry that broadcast, with Ian Wendt on the call.
