Mequon, WI – The Adrian College NCAA women’s hockey team traveled to Concordia University Wisconsin for a two-game road series featuring the top two teams in the NCHA. Entering the weekend, Adrian held a one-point lead in the conference standings. After a high-scoring second period, Concordia Wisconsin earned a 6-3 victory on Friday.
The opening period was scoreless for both sides. Concordia Wisconsin broke through first midway through the second period to take a 1-0 lead, but the Bulldogs quickly answered as Carly Carpenter scored to even the game at 1-1. Just 90 seconds later, Concordia regained the lead and followed with two more goals in a 19-second span to jump ahead 4-1.
Despite being shorthanded, Adrian responded when Paige Pomerleau capitalized on a turnover in the Concordia defensive zone to score a shorthanded goal, cutting the deficit to two. Concordia answered with two power-play goals to extend its lead to 6-2. Maddy Loe scored late in the period to pull the Bulldogs within three at 6-3.
The third period was scoreless, securing the 6-3 win for Concordia Wisconsin.
Adrian will return to action on Saturday afternoon, looking to split the series and reclaim the NCHA lead, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. The broadcast will, again, be on 96.5fm The Cave with Ian Wendt on the call.
