Adrian, MI – Here are the Lenawee County stories from Monday’s Inside the Cave Sports Update…

The Tecumseh girls basketball team did not get the result they were looking for when they faced Grand Rapids West Catholic over the weekend, in a game that featured last year’s State Championship teams.

A late Indians flurry tied the game late, but Tecumseh ultimately lost, 54-52. Cave Sports caught up with Coach Kristy Zajac after the contest…

 

The Tribe are now 6-1 on the young season. The Indians play two games at home this week…Blissfield on Tuesday and Adrian on Friday.

In other Lenawee County girls basketball from the weekend…

Adrian defeated Jackson Northwest, 40-29. Salenbien and Lahring each had 10 to lead the 4-1 Maples.

Kayla Gerken and Hannah Hill poured in 15 a piece to lead Onsted past Stockbridge, 47-31. Karlie Kimerer had 11 for the Wildcats.

Brynn Daivs had 21 points for Lenawee Christian, but that was not enough, as the Cougars fell to Concord 64-55. Hattie Fansler scored in double-figures, with 14.

Madison lost to Brooklyn Columbia Central over the weekend, 35-22. Parish had 11 for the Trojans.

Blissfield picked up a win over Jonesville 38-27. AnnMarie Scharer had 12 points for the Royals. Kaleea Braun chipped in 11.

The Tecumseh boys basketball team lost to Brooklyn Columbia Central over the weekend, 63-57. Charlie Palmer had 15, Lamar Longabaugh scored 12, and Jacob Barrie netted 10 for the Indians.

In Lenawee County wrestling action this weekend…

Clinton finished runner up at the Algonac Duals, defeating Carlson, St. Clair Shores Lakeview, and Utica. The Redwolves lost to Division 2 Algonac in the finals. Zach Taylor won his 100th career match.

Adrian wrestling won the Adrian Duals, going 4-0 on the day. The Maples beat South Lyon, Coldwater, Flat Rock, and Addison.

The Siena Heights women’s basketball came up short against Aquinas, dropping an 85-66 decision in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

Ty’Veonna Davis paced the Saints with 24 points. Kanyla Tyler scored 16 points for SHU…while Lauren DeWolf chipped in nine points.

The Siena Heights men’s basketball team fell to Aquinas over the weekend, 71-59, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

Jonas Tester led the Saints with 17 points, Jack Olis and George Kalatzis scored 15 points.

The Adrian College women’s basketball team beat rival Albion in comeback fashion Saturday, 70-62.

The Bulldogs struggled out of the gate, finding themselves down 19-5 after the first quarter. Adrian cut into the lead in the second quarter, outsourcing the Briton 17-11 in the frame…to make the deficit 30-22 at the half.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room locked-in…shooting 11-13 from the floor, 5-6 from 3-point range, and 3-3 from the free throw line in the third quarter. Adrian erupted for 30 points in the frame, while allowing only 16. The Dawgs outscored Brits by two in the fourth quarter to come away with a dramatic 70-62 win.

Morgan Babb led the way with a 25-point double-double with 14 rebounds. Hannah Lisch added 16 points, while Aubrie Ickes also finished with 16 points, and eight rebounds.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3–1 in MIAA play. Adrian will hit the road Wednesday to take on Kalamazoo College.

The Adrian College NCAA women’s hockey team lost in the championship game of the SUNY Morrisville Mustang Cup Tournament over the weekend, 3-1.

The 9th ranked Bulldogs led 1-0 until late in the third period, where 2nd ranked Amherst College mounted their comeback.

Courtney Ben scored on the power play for Adrian in the second period…assisted by Emma Simon.

Adrian held the lead deep into the third, but Amherst scored on the power play with 4:49 to go and tie the game. Amherst took the lead just over two minutes later in the period and later netted an empty net goal.

Kiera Stack started in goal and finished the game with 26 saves for the Bulldogs.

The Adrian College NCAA men’s hockey team got swept by Aurora University over the weekend, losing 4-1 at home on Friday at home, then losing 4-2 on the road Sunday.

The clash of two highly-ranked Division three teams was tight throughout…with the Spartans scoring late empty-net goals to seal the wins.

An Adrian College junior from Bellevue won the 2026 American Cornhole League Singles Championship Title. Alex Weaver got the win down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
