Adrian, MI – Here are the local highlights from Friday’s Inside the Cave Sports Update…

The Tecumseh Indians volleyball team came out victorious against the Madison Trojans in district final action at Adrian high school Thursday night.

Set scores were: 25-10, 25-17, and 25-12.

The Lenawee Christian Cougars volleyball won a district title Thursday night on their home floor, defeating Summerfield in three sets.

Set scores were: 25-17, 25-19, and 25-18.

Hattie Fansler led the Cougars with 14 kills & 5 blocks. Brynn Davis had 35 assists. Leah Sherman had 6 aces in the second set, and 20 digs in the match.

LCS will play in the regional semifinal round Tuesday.

Clinton volleyball will face Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central Saturday at 10am at SMCC.

Hudson volleyball will play for a district title against Hanover-Horton tonight at 6pm in Hillsdale.

Four Lenawee County football teams are still alive in the MHSAA postseason.

The 10-0 Hudson Tigers will host the 8-2 White Pigeon Chiefs in District Finals action Friday at 7pm. Ian Wendt and Fred Smith will have the call for 95.3 WQTE.

The 9-1 Adrian Maples will host the 7-3 Fenton Tigers Friday night at 7. John Koehn will be on the broadcast for 103.9 WLEN and wlen.com. The winner will be crowned district champions.

The 8-2 Clinton Redwolves will hit the road Friday night at 7 to battle 8-2 Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central Falcons in district finals play. Join Josh Rielly and Cory Cox for all the action on 96.5 The Cave and 9 6 5 the cave dot com.

The 9-1 Britton-Deerfield Patriots are the lone Lenawee County team playing Saturday. They will be home against the 9-1 Deckerville Eagles in Regional championship action beginning at 2pm.

Siena Heights men’s soccer player Pedro Mattoso was named to the WHAC All-Newcomer Team, highlighting a number of Saints honored by the league on Wednesday.

Mattoso had one goal in 2025 — a game-tying score — in SHU’s 2-1 win over Lawrence Tech.

Head coach Drew Crawford and player Benjamin Westerlund were honored on the WHAC Champions of Character Team.

Academic All-WHAC honorees from Siena Heights include Westerlund, Maurice Irvin Bieri, Yuriy Tukalevskyy, Jan Haller, Juan Camilo Hernandez Calderon, Guilherme Ramos, Kai Uribes, Christian Orta, Joey Spagnoli, Paulo Guimares and Jaxon Niese.

The Adrian College women’s basketball team was picked fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Coaches Preseason Poll.

The Bulldogs look to build on last season’s progress after finishing 7–19 overall and 6–10 in MIAA play. Senior guard Morgan Babb headlines the Adrian lineup after earning All-MIAA Second Team honors a year ago.

Babb led the Bulldogs in nearly every major statistical category, recording 286 points, 96 field goals, 79 free throws, 144 rebounds, 33 assists, and 14 blocks.

Senior forward Aubrie Ickes also returns as a key contributor after leading the team with 23 steals and 14 blocks, while adding 157 points and 106 rebounds. Sophomore guard Hannah Lisch rounds out Adrian’s top returners, having totaled 142 points, 38 rebounds, and 21 steals in her freshman campaign.

The Bulldogs open their 2025–26 season at home this Saturday, hosting Hiram College at 5:00 PM inside the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has released its 2025–26 Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll, with the Adrian College Bulldogs projected to finish tied for sixth with 40 points.

Calvin claimed the top spot in the poll with eight first-place votes, followed by Trine, Hope, Olivet and Albion. Adrian and Kalamazoo shared the sixth position, with Alma closing out the poll in eighth.

The Bulldogs finished 7–19 overall and 5–9 in MIAA play last season. Overall, the roster will look quite different from last year, and head coach Tim Kaiser talked about the pros and cons of that situation…

 

The Bulldogs are in Ohio this weekend to open their season…at Oberlin College.
