Adrian, MI – Here are the local highlights from Wednesday’s Sports Update on Inside the Cave…

The Adrian Maples volleyball team swept SEC White for Ypsilanti, winning 25-9, 25-15, and 25-12.

Senior Ella Salenbien tallied 6 digs, 6 aces, and 8 kills to help lead the charge. Addyson Martolock anchored the defense with a match-high 14 digs and added 11 kills.

Edynn Eichorn dished out 15 assists and contributed 6 aces.

The Onsted girls cross country team won the Madison Invitational on Tuesday.

Raegan Brosamer was the first of four medal winning girls with her 3rd place finish. Mattie Hallenbeck, Emma Grulke, and Izzy Raglow each medaled in 4th, 6th, and 9th. Chloe Gemalsky was 23rd.

Hanover-Horton took second as a team, Ottawa Lake-Whiteford was third, and Erie Mason was 4th.

On the boys side, two Wildcats were medal winners, with Nick Holmes finishing 7th and Chris Durfey 14th.

Hanover-Horton boys won the event…followed by Erie Mason, Madison, then Onsted in 4th. Whiteford finished 5th, and Summerfield took 6th.

The Wildcat girls will attempt to defend their County Title Saturday when both teams run the County Meet at Gerber Hill Park.

Boys soccer districts begin today for some Lenawee County teams. In Division 2 at Adrian…Lincoln will play Airport at 4:30pm this afternoon. Then Tecumseh will play Adrian at 6:30pm.

In Division 3 at Hillsdale…on Thursday, Onsted will play BC Pennfield at 5pm.

In D4 at Lenawee Christian….Manchester will play the host Cougars at 6:30pm on Thursday.

Clinton boys soccer earned a share of the LCAA title, going 9-1 in the league. They went an impressive 17-1-1 overall on the season.

Blissfield girls volleyball lost to Dundee on Tuesday night, 3 sets to 1.

In the inaugural match at the new Sweebe Family Athletic Center dome, the Adrian College men’s soccer team marked the occasion with a thrilling 3–2 win over the University of Olivet on Tuesday night.

In the ninth minute, Adrian’s Kyle Jennings found the back of the net to give Adrian an early lead.

Andy Ignatovich doubled the advantage in the 48th minute, finishing off an assist from Kyle Peterson to make it 2–0. Olivet scored twice, quickly, to tie the game in the second half.

In the 71st minute, Dominic Kretschmer delivered the game-winner, heading home a setup from Ignatovich to put the Bulldogs in front for good.

Goalkeeper Eli Sizemore made five saves to preserve the victory as Adrian secured its first conference win of the season.

The Bulldogs will continue MIAA play later this week as they head out to Kalamazoo College Saturday for a 7pm kick off.
