Adrian, MI – Here are the local highlights from the Inside the Cave Sports Update from Friday morning…

The football coach who guided the Hudson Tigers through ‘The Streak’ of the early 1970’s has passed away.

72 consecutive wins put Hudson on the map of high school football, nationwide. The Tigers won 10 consecutive LCAA Championships, which is still a conference record.

The 72 straight wins remains the state record in Michigan. Tom Saylor’s 11-season coaching record was 94-5-1.

The announcement of Saylor’s passing was posted to the doughnut shop’s social media that bears his name…located in Angola, Indiana.

The Adrian Maples swim and dive team defeated rival Tecumseh Thursday, 109-76.

Individual 1st place-finishers for Adrian included:
200 Free – Abby Meyers
200 IM – Emma Pino
50 Free – Allison Marks
Diving – Reese Beauleaux
100 Fly – Michele Coy
100 Free – Emma Pino
500 Free – Allison Marks
And 100 Breast – Abby Meyers

Tecumseh swim Tribe competed in an SEC dual match against Jackson on Thursday, winning in three consecutive sets… 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14.

Stat Leaders for the Indians were:

Lily Gnodtke: 30 assists and 7 digs
Addi Zajac: 9 kills
Chloe Bullinger: 8 digs and 3 aces
And Violette Roehrig: 10 digs

Tecumseh improves to 24-1 on the season. They will head to the Haslett Invitational on Saturday.

It was a good night for the Lenawee Christian Cougar Volleyball team – taking down the Sand Creek Aggies in 3 sets… 25-10, 25-7, and 25-10.

Hattie Fansler led the offense with 9 kills, followed closely by Gigi Masters with 6 kills. Zoe Cherfan led the team with an astounding 12 aces.

The LCS Volleyball Team will host the Cougar Quad this Saturday.

The Adrian Maple boys tennis team defeated Lincoln 7-1 on Thursday, securing a second place finish in the SEC White.

The Lenawee Christian boys soccer team took down Onsted, 1-0.

The Adrian College men’s golf team competed in the second MIAA Jamboree of the season on Thursday afternoon…placing 7th.

Carter Klawonn led the Bulldogs with a 76. Jaden Eggers shot 81 for Adrian while Jack Vogel shot 83. Mason Gurney completed the team scoring with an 85.

Adrian will compete in Jamboree #3 on October 4th when they travel to Alma to play at Pine River Country Club.

The Adrian College women’s soccer team battled to a 0–0 draw on Thursday afternoon against Kenyon College in a non-conference matchup.

The Bulldogs leaned on a standout performance from goalkeeper Katelyn Stanton, who recorded seven saves to secure her first shutout of the season.

Stanton turned away five shots in the second half as Kenyon applied heavy pressure, finishing with a 16–4 advantage in shots and a 7–2 edge in attempts on goal.

With the result, Adrian moves to 3-5-1 overall, while Kenyon is 6-1-2.

The Bulldogs return to action Sunday as they stay on the road heading out Baldwin Wallace University for a 4:30 pm kick off.

Two of the best teams in 8-player high school football in the state are set to clash tonight in Britton, as the BD Patriots host the Lenawee Christian Cougars.

96.5 The Cave and Lenawee TV will have the contest live at 6:45pm with a pregame show…kickoff at 7pm.

BD’s Liem Roe tallied five touchdowns in last Friday’s win over Concord, and earned the Iott Insurance Athlete of the Week honor. 

He talked about the guys up front that make it all happen…his offensive linemen…
