Adrian, MI – Here is the Inside the Cave Sports Update from Tuesday…

The Adrian Maples boys soccer team downed Tecumseh on Monday, 3-2. Maple goals were by Parker Smith, Nathan Wojcik, and Carter Allen. Wojcik and Smith also had assists. Nolan Wood had seven saves for Adrian.

The Adrian Maples boys tennis team hosted Coldwater, and were able to pull out another victory 5-3 with all 4 singles taking wins… Cayden Barrus, Grant Garza , Linus Hammes, and Harrison Boyd.

The number one doubles team of Nathan Leonard and Colton Case also picked up Adrian wins. The Maples host Chelsea tonight.

The Blissfield Royals soccer team came home from Hillsdale with a big victory. Goals were scored by Caleb Vore, Durant Smith, Brayden Cunningham, and Noah Sills.

Assists to Myles Forche, Durant Smith, and Brayden Cunningham.

Clinton boys soccer coach Marla Erickson picked up career win number 100 in the Redwolves 8-0 triumph over LCAA foe Onsted.

The Adrian College women’s golf team kicked off MIAA Conference play on Monday afternoon in Grand Rapids, finishing tied for sixth place in the conference standings.

Savana Smith led the way for Adrian, carding a 76 to finish third overall as an individual. Kennedy Kehres followed with an 83, while Rylie Yuhas posted an 84. Ainslee Hewitt contributed an 86 to complete the team scoring.

The Bulldogs return to action September 28th and 29th as they head to Wisconsin for the UW-Whitewater Invite.

Adrian College men’s soccer ran into a tough challenge on Monday evening, falling 9–0 on the road against Western Michigan at the WMU Soccer Complex.

The Broncos struck early and often, netting five first-half goals. Western Michigan kept up the pressure in the second half, adding four more goals to close out the match.

The loss drops Adrian to 2-6-0 on the season. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back in their next match at Wabash College on Wednesday.

The Adrian College women’s soccer team came up short in a 2-0 loss against Mount Union on Monday evening at Docking Stadium.

The Purple Raiders broke through in the 61st minute to make it 1-0. Mount Union doubled their advantage in the 79th minute. Bulldog goalkeeper Katelyn Stanton had three saves, including a diving stop on a penalty kick in the 85th minute.

The 3-5 Bulldogs will look to bounce back in their next match when they hit the road against Kenyon College for a 4 PM kick off.

Two members of the Adrian College women’s tennis team competed at the ITA Regionals over the weekend, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis… Claire Earley and Hye Jin Elliott.

In doubles play, they received a first-round bye into the Round of 32. They advanced with an 8-2 victory over a pair from Earlham College before facing the top-seeded team from WashU. The duo’s run came to an end there with an 8-0 loss.

In singles competition, Elliott also received a first-round bye. She defeated her second-round opponent from the Illinois Institute of Technology in straight sets. She was forced to withdraw from her next match against a WashU opponent due to a walkover.

Earley opened singles play with a hard-fought win over her opponent from Franciscan University of Steubenville. In the following round, she faced the tournament’s number two seed and fell in two sets.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its Athletes of the Week on Monday, with two Adrian College student-athletes earning honors. Tim Simons of the football team was named MIAA Special Teams Player of the Week, while Jack Vogel of the men’s golf team was recognized as MIAA Men’s Golfer of the Week.

The Adrian College football team will enter conference play on Saturday with a perfect 3-0 record after a 57-0 homecoming win over Manchester University last week. Second year head coach Joe Palka talked about his team’s effort in the contest…
