
Adrian, MI – Here is the Inside the Cave Sports Update from Wednesday morning (minus the high school football preview stories. They will be featured in separate stories)

Lenawee County boys and girls cross country teams were well-represented at the Nick Haynes Invitational at Whiteford on Tuesday.
The runners were split between boys and girls, and grade level…with freshmen grouped with sophomores and juniors grouped with seniors.
The Blissfield freshman/sophomore boys team won their event, followed by Sand Creek and Madison. The Royals freshman/sophomore girls team also won…followed by Sand Creek.
For the upperclassmen: Erie Mason won the boys side, Sand Creek took second, then Madison third. The Blissfield upperclassmen girls won their event, defeating Erie-Mason.
Individual winners were: Blissfield’s Michael Weidmayer, Blissfield’s Hope Miller, Madison’s Trenton Fetter, and Emma Dye from Evergreen.

The Adrian College men’s soccer team has been projected to finish 5th this season in the 8-team Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association preseason poll.
Calvin University was picked to win the league, followed by Hope College, Trine University, and Albion College. AC was picked over Kalamazoo College, Alma College, and the University of Olivet.
Adrian opens its season this Saturday, when they travel to Bethany College for a 3:30 PM kickoff.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association also released its 2025 Women’s Soccer Conference Preseason Poll on Tuesday morning, placing Adrian College third.
The Bulldogs were picked behind Calvin University and Hope College. AC was slated ahead of Trine University, Albion College, Kalamazoo College, St. Mary’s College, Alma College, and the University of Olivet. Adrian opens its season this Friday, when they host the Hiram College Terriers at Docking Stadium at 5 PM.

The Toledo Mud Hens fell to the St. Paul Saints on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field, dropping the series opener by a final score of 5-4 after a ninth-inning rally came up short.
The Saints hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to take the lead. Toledo threatened in the bottom half with a double and a walk to put runners on first and second, but the rally fell short.
Randy Dobnak threw five solid innings for the Hens, allowing three hits, two earned runs, and eight strikeouts.
Gage Workman homered for Toledo. Akil Badoo had two hits and an RBI.
The Mud Hens will look to bounce back tonight St. Paul. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.

The Detroit Lions made several moves Tuesday, cutting their roster down to 50 players. Notable players waived by the team were:
Wide receiver Ronnie Bell, quarterback Hendon Hooker, safety Ian Kennelly, defensive lineman Brodric Martin, wide receiver Jackson Meeks, safety Morice Norris, and running back Jacob Saylors.
The Lions open their season at Green Bay September 7th.

The Detroit Tigers have released their 2026 schedule. They will begin their season in San Diego to battle the Padres March 26-28. The home opener will be April 3rd against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Darell Hernaiz walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Athletics beat the American League-leading Detroit Tigers 7-6. Jacob Wilson homered and had a career-high four RBIs, Tyler Soderstrom had two hits and two RBIs, and Shea Langeliers doubled among his three hits and scored two runs. Eduarniel Núñez (1-0) made his eighth MLB appearance and got his first career win. After Detroit took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 10th, Will Vest (6-3) started the bottom of the inning and gave up two runs — one earned — on a hit and three walks, his sixth blown save in 25 opportunities this season. Soderstrom’s RBI single tied the score 6-6 before Vest walked three of the next four hitters.
