Tecumseh high school graduate, and former Michigan State Spartan, Sam Benschoter is still up with Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds after being called up for a second time this season earlier this week.
His father, Adam, was a guest on 96.5 The Cave’s Inside the Cave show Monday. He talked about his son’s journey to the Majors, and the whirlwind his family has been on the last month or so… with traveling to Boston, Pittsburgh, and now Cincinnati on short notice.
The differences between Major and Minor league baseball are, in some ways, insignificant…but in other ways are drastically different. Besides living out a dream, and the bump in pay, even the food is different. Cave staff member John Roberts and Benschoter talked about those differences…
The Reds kicked-off a home series against the Philadelphia Phillies Monday.

Lenawee County, and Adrian College baseball alums, are also keeping a close eye on current Colorado Rockies pitcher Dugan Darnell.
He has put up some impressive numbers since his call-up from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Heading into Monday night, Darnell had pitched in 5 games, with a 1-0 record, 2.84 ERA in 6 and a third innings pitched. He also has three strikeouts.
Thomas Harding from MLB.com wrote an article featuring Darnell… highlighting his high school and college career. It also focused on his brief hiatus from baseball when he entered the workforce with a marketing firm in Chicago.
He eventually signed with the Colorado Rockies in 2021 and worked his way through the minor leagues. Darnell earned a win in his first appearance for Colorado on August 1st…when his team won a wild game against Pittsburgh 17-16.
The article also mentioned the role his coach at Adrian College, Craig Rainey, played in his baseball career.
