Adrian, MI – Here is the Sports Update from Monday’s Inside the Cave…

We are less than one week away from the Lenawee County high school football coaches preview show, hosted by Hometown Pizza in Manitou Beach.

Each of the 12 teams in Lenawee will be represented at the event from 10am-1pm. Every coach will get 12 minutes to answer questions about their 2025 squads. There will be four teams highlighted each hour.

The 10am hour will have Britton-Deerfield (10), Blissfield (10:15), Addison (10:30), and Lenawee Christian (10:45).

11am will be Adrian (11), Clinton (11:15), Morenci (11:30), and Hudson (11:45).

Then, the noon hour will have Onsted (12), Tecumseh (12:15), Madison (12:30), and Sand Creek (12:45).

The high school football coaches preview show will be aired on 96.5 The Cave and streamed on Lenawee TV.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has announced the inaugural recipients of its newly established Academic Elite Award, created to recognize outstanding academic achievement among student-athletes across the conference.

A total of 88 student-athletes have been named to the first-ever class of Academic Elite honorees. 86 of them earned a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Representing Adrian College, five student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA and earned recognition as members of the MIAA Academic Elite:

Sarah Anastasiadis – Women’s Cross Country / Indoor & Outdoor Track and Field
Jaxon Clark – Baseball
Zoe Greenbaum – Women’s Soccer
Bailey Taylor – Women’s Basketball
Maylee Young – Women’s Cross Country / Indoor & Outdoor Track and Field

Detroit Lions safety Morice Norris says in a social media post he’s OK after being taken off the field in an ambulance late in the preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Norris thanked people for their support in the post on Saturday. He was in stable condition late Friday night after he was attended to for about 20 minutes and taken to an Atlanta hospital.

The 24-year-old Norris was hurt with 14:50 left in the preseason game after hitting Falcons running back Nathan Carter. Detroit coach Dan Campbell and Atlanta coach Raheem Morris made a decision to not finish the game.

Coach Campbell addressed the media following the game. He was asked about what the sideline was like at that moment…

The Toledo Mud Hens came out swinging but fell just short of a sweep, dropping a 9-6 decision to the Louisville Bats on Sunday afternoon.

The Hens will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday, when they open a series against the Columbus Clippers. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at Fifth Third Field.

Kerry Carpenter homered and drove in three runs to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels 9-5 on Sunday.

Carpenter doubled and scored in the first, hit a sacrifice fly in the second and added a three-run homer in the fourth. Casey Mize earned his 11th win of the season, allowing two runs on three hits in five innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Riley Greene hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Detroit travels to Chicago for three games against the White Sox. Chris Paddack will pitch on Monday evening. After playing 13 of their last 16 games at home, the Tigers play 13 of the next 19 on the road.
