9-11 Year Old Softball (Hosted by Clinton Little League)

Clinton won the district championship after winning two consecutive games against Plymouth Canton. Scores were not posted online.

Clinton will travel to Sparta Little League for the state finals. Their first game will be Friday, July 25th at 11 AM.

With the younger divisions, they have an opportunity to send the runner up to the state finals if the tournament host would like for them to attend. District 9 Administrator, John Edgerle, asked that Plymouth Canton move on. Their game will be on Friday, July 25 at 2 PM.

9-11 Year Old Baseball (Hosted by Plymouth Canton Little League)

Tecumseh defeated Plymouth Canton 14-0 to force a second game in the championship series. They will have the rematch tonight at 6pm.

8-10 Year Old Baseball (Hosted by Tecumseh Area Little League)

Tecumseh American bested Tecumseh National 9-3. Plymouth Canton American defeated Hudson, 4-1.

NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles won as best male and female athletes at the ESPYS on Wednesday night.

Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA championship last month while piling up hardware as league MVP and scoring champion.

Biles, an 11-time Olympic medalist, claimed the night’s first award, best championship performance for her efforts at the Paris Games. She won three golds and a silver while helping the U.S. win its first team title since 2016.

Basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson accepted the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage from point guard Russell Westbrook.

Diana Taurasi and retired U.S. national women’s soccer team star Alex Morgan shared the Icon Award in recognition of their careers and major impact on sports.

Former athletes David Walters and Erin Regan accepted the Pat Tillman Award for Service, given to those who have served in a way that honors the legacy of the former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger.

An emotional Katie Schumacher-Cawley accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance with her husband and children joining in the standing ovation. The Penn State women’s volleyball coach was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in September. She continued coaching without missing a practice and became the first woman to guide a team to the NCAA national championship.

Basketball player Cameron Boozer and track and field athlete Jane Hedengren were named the Gatorade Best Male and Female Players of the Year.

A home belonging to Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte was burglarized during the Major League Baseball All-Star break, according to police.

Scottsdale, Arizona, police confirmed that the department is investigating a “high-dollar residential burglary” that is believed to have happened on Tuesday night, which is when Marte was playing for the National League in its All-Star game win in Atlanta.

Numerous personal items and jewelry were stolen. No one was at home when the burglary occured.

Police said the home is “reportedly” owned by Marte. Maricopa County Assessor’s Office records show Marte owns a home on the block near the investigation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Baseball’s All-Star Game — which featured the contest’s first swing-off to determine the winner — averaged 7.185 million viewers on Fox, according to Nielsen.

It was Fox’s most-watched telecast since the Super Bowl and the network’s best audience for a Tuesday night since last year’s Game 4 of the World Series. However, it was a 3.5% decrease from the 2024 game and the second-lowest for the Midsummer Classic.

Monday night’s Home Run Derby averaged 5.73 million on ESPN, a 5% increase over last year.

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta ‘received votes’ from a panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at tight end, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season.

San Francisco’s Georg Kittle took the top spot. Las Vegas’ Brock Bowers took second.

Kansas City’s Travis Kelce finished third, followed by Arizona’s Trey McBride and Baltimore’s Mark Andrews.

LaPorta and Minnesota’s T.J. Hockenson also ‘received votes.’

Lions’ safety Kerby Joseph finished second in the Associated press ranking of best safeties in the NFL heading into the 2025 season.

Baltimore’s Kyle Hamilton took the top spot. Green Bay’s Xavier McKinney, Detroit’s Brian Branch and Derwin James of the Los Angeles Chargers rounded out the top five.
