Dietrich Enns pitched five scoreless innings in his return to the majors as the Detroit Tigers beat the Athletics 8-0 on Thursday.
Enns gave up a single and two walks in his first game since he threw two scoreless innings for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Miami Marlins on September 24th, 2021.
The 34-year-old pitched in Japan from 2022-23, and spent last season in South Korea.
Spencer Torkelson and Gleyber Torres homered for the Tigers while Zach McKinstry had three hits, including a double and a triple.
Torkelson, who came into the game hitting .193 with nine homers in his past 54 games, led off the second with his 17th home run of the season. Jahmai Jones hit a two-run double to put the Tigers up 3-0 in the third.
Torres hit a two-run homer to make it 5-0 in the seventh. McKinstry hit a two-run triple in the eighth and scored on a sacrifice fly.

The San Francisco Giants’ CEO said that Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the San Francisco Giants’ home stadium where he set baseball’s career home run record.
Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer was asked during a radio interview on 95.7 The Game about a statue for Bonds, and he responded that it was “on the radar.” But Baer didn’t have any details of when that would happen.
He set the single-season MLB record with 73 homers in 2001, and hit his record-breaking 756th homer to pass Hank Aaron in a home game against Washington on August 7th, 2007.
There are currently five statues outside Oracle Park, those of Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Orlando Cepeda. The Giants retired Bonds’ number 25 jersey in 2018.
Bonds, a seven-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, is not in the Hall of Fame. He failed to reach the 75% threshold required during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers Association of America’s Hall of Fame ballot, mostly because of steroids allegations that dogged him during his final years with the Giants. The Contemporary Player Committee also passed on electing Bonds in 2022, though the committee could reconsider Bonds’ status.

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge were the first players picked for the July 15 All-Star Game in Atlanta, elected as starters by fans on Thursday.
The pair were selected under rules that began in 2022 and give starting spots to the top vote-getter in each league in the first phase of online voting, which ended Thursday. Two finalists at every other position advanced to the second phase.
Three Detroit Tigers advanced to round two… second baseman Gleyber Torres, outfielder Javier Baez, and outfielder Riley Greene.
Remaining starters will be announced on July 2. Pitchers and reserves will be revealed on July 6.
The NHL and NHL Players’ Association are on the verge of extending the collective bargaining agreement more than a year before it expires and expanding the regular season to 84 games.
The four-year extension that could be announced as soon as today at the draft in Los Angeles would provide extended labor peace in a sport that has had multiple work stoppages
The league and union closing in on a deal was confirmed Thursday by three people familiar with the negotiations who spoke with The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized. It was first reported by Daily Faceoff.

The NFL suspended former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker for the first 10 weeks of the season on Thursday for violating its personal conduct policy.
The 35-year-old became a free agent after the Ravens released him last month in the aftermath of reports that he was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior by massage therapists. Tucker has maintained he did not act inappropriately while receiving professional treatment.
A five-time All-Pro, Tucker has played his entire 13-year career with Baltimore. He is considered one of the best kickers in NFL history, although 2024 was his worst season.
The Baltimore Banner since January has reported that more than a dozen massage therapists have accused Tucker of inappropriate sexual behavior. A message seeking comment by the Associated Press was left with Tucker’s publicist Thursday.
