Late-Game Heroics Lift Adrian College Women’s Lacrosse Over Albion in MIAA Tournament

Adrian, MI – After punching their ticket to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association postseason tournament for the first time since 2014, the Adrian College Women’s Lacrosse defeated Albion College in the quarterfinal round Saturday afternoon.

The 12-11 victory sends the Bulldogs to the semifinals at top-seeded Hope College Tuesday at 7pm. Adrian’s Abby Malone scored twice in the first 2:02 of the contest, Kacie Woodall tallied one half-way through the quarter, and the Bulldogs led 3-2 after the first stanza.

Sarah Gross scored early in the second period for the ‘Dawgs. Madeline Turcotte and Abbie Malone found the back of the net before the half. Albion had a late-half surge to take a 7-6 lead to the locker room.

After the Brittons took an 8-6 lead early in the third quarter, Adrian’s Turcotte scored another Bulldog goal. The visitors made it 9-7 late in the frame and carried the lead into the fourth.

Turcotte scored the first goal of the final quarter of regulation with 9:38 left. Albion answered with 4:52 remaining to regain their two-goal lead, 10-8. Adrian’s Sarah Gross scored with 3:51 remaining to make it a one goal-game once more. Turcotte’s fourth goal of the game tied the contest with 3:07 left.

The Britons quickly regained the advantage with 2:23 left. It was all Bulldogs from there, with Kacie Woodall finding the back of the net with 2:09 remaining to make it 11-all. Adrian’s game-winning goal came with 1:51 left off the stick of Mariana Miller.

Madeline Turcotte paced Adrian College in goals (4). Abby Malone scored three times, Kacie Woodall and Sarah Gross tallied twice, and Mariana Miller scored once. Miller was the only Adrian player to record an assist in the game (4).

Adrian had a 17-9 advantage in draw controls, with Turcotte securing 8 of them. Bella Norton had 7 saves in goal for the Bulldogs. Saturday’s contest was aired on 96.5fm The Cave.
