Adrian, MI – The women’s lacrosse team hosted Saint Mary’s College in Docking Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for a MIAA showdown where the Bulldogs fell short in overtime 10-9.
The Bulldogs scored five unanswered goals in the opening quarter. Sarah Gross struck first, then Mariana Miller added a pair of her own. Madeline Turcotte capped off the first-quarter with a goal to give Adrian a 5–0 lead after one.
Saint Mary’s managed to get on the board early in the second quarter, but not before Miller completed her hat trick to stretch Adrian’s lead. Adrian carried a four-goal cushion into the break.
Kacie Woodall scored early in the second half, pushing the lead back to five. However, Saint Mary’s began to claw back, scoring twice early in the fourth quarter. Abby Malone responded with her first goal of the game to give Adrian some breathing room, but the Belles continued their rally, tying the game at 8 late in regulation.
Saint Mary’s would briefly take the lead in the final minutes, but Woodall delivered in the clutch, burying a free-position shot with 1:37 left on the clock to knot things up at 9 and send the game into overtime.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Belles capitalized in the extra frame, scoring the sudden -death winner to secure a dramatic 10–9 victory. The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday at 1pm, where they will host Calvin University. Tuesday’s game was aired on 96.5fm The Cave.
