Adrian, MI – The No. 2 Adrian College Women’s ACHA Division 1 hockey team hosted No. 11 Arizona State University at the Arrington Ice Arena on Wednesday night, skating to a 4-2 victory in the team’s final home game of the season.
This was the third all-time meeting between the two teams, with AC winning both prior games, 5-0.
The Bulldogs and Sun Devils battled back and forth in an exciting but scoreless first frame, before the Bulldogs opened the scoring with two goals of their own in the second period. Neleh Wood and Genessie Williams (PPG) knotted goals, while Tess McKerrow set-up both tallies with primary assists. Arizona State added a late powerplay goal in the dying seconds of period two to bring the score to 2-1 heading into the final stanza.
Adrian quickly netted two goals to open period three thanks to Ashlynn Stitt and Kali Foerster, with McKerrow grabbing another assist. Later on, the Sun Devils scored a breakaway goal to close the gap, but Rieley Jessie-Gerelli continued to hold down the fort for Adrian in goal, fending off ASU and holding on for the 4-2 win. Stitt, Tyla Turnbull, Amelia Smolinski, and Hailey Wiltshire each earned assists in the win as well. The Wednesday contest was broadcast on 96.5fm The Cave with Ian Wendt and Tyler Fyfe on the call.
The Bulldogs extend their winning streak to seven games as they prepare for two contests at No. 1 Liberty University this weekend.
