
Defiance, OH – Siena Heights University basketball teams split their women’s/men’s doubleheader Wednesday night at Defiance College. The women’s team used a big third quarter to pull away, while the men could not maintain their first half lead. Both games were aired on 96.5fm The Cave and online at 965thecave.com.
Strong Third Frame Propels Saints to Convincing WHAC Win…
Defiance, OH – Brooke Rebman scored 13 points and E’Anna Won had 11 as the Siena Heights women’s basketball team downed Defiance, 65-39, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.
Rebman also had four assists. Won made three assists and three blocks. Alexx Braddock and Kanyla Tyler provided key minutes off the bench in the win.
After taking a 13-11 lead through one quarter, SHU (14-10, 11-5) dominated the middle quarters, outscoring Defiance 44-14.
The Saints netted 30 points in the third quarter, after holding the Yellow Jackets to just 2 in the second. Siena Heights University secured their largest lead, 57-25, late in the third stanza. SHU swept the season series with DC.
The Saints will return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. WHAC contest at Lawrence Tech.
Yellow Jackets Sting Saints in Second Half, Earn Season Series Split…
Defiance, OH – The Siena Heights men’s basketball team fell to WHAC conference opponent Defiance, 71-63 on Wednesday.
George Kalatzis led the Saints with 20 points and five rebounds. Jonas Tester (13) and Kobe Clark (10) also found themselves scoring in double-figures.
SHU 6-18 (3-13) won the defensive battle in the first half only allowing 25 points, as the Saints were up 30-25 at the break, ending the half on a 16-4 run.
In the second half, Defiance shot 57.1% as they eventually took the lead back 36-34 with 16:21 to go. The Saints fought hard to get it back as Kalatzis converted on a three-point play to regain the lead 39-36 with 13:19 remaining, before Defiance erupted to take the lead back for good.
The Saints shot 37.3% from the floor Wednesday, and 17.6% from behind the arc.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. EST game at Lawrence Tech.
