Canton, MI – Siena Heights University has announced that the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams will play home games at Arctic Edge Ice Arena for their inaugural season in 2025-26.
Arctic Edge is roughly 40 miles from SHU — about a 50-minute drive from the Adrian campus. The university says that it will serve as the Saints’ home rink until they break ground on a local facility. Arctic Edge is a state-of-the-art skating facility that features two NHL size rinks.
“We are excited to have a home rink as we partner with Arctic Edge,” said SHU vice president of athletics Sue Syljebeck. “They are committed to supporting the collegiate student-athlete experience.”
Located on Route 12/Michigan Avenue, Arctic Edge hosts youth and adult hockey leagues and figure skating.
“We are looking forward to the new partnership and success of the Siena Heights hockey programs,” said Arctic Edge president and general manager Craig O’Neill.
Arctic Edge has been the home rink for Concordia’s ice hockey teams, which are coached by incoming SHU coaches Trevor Sattelmeier (men) and Maria Barlow (women).
“The rink staff at Arctic Edge is exceptional,” Sattelmeier said. “They consistently accommodate our needs and provide outstanding support. Our Concordia teams have benefitted from an excellent private locker room and coaches’ room space within the facility. Arctic Edge’s proximity to shops and restaurants makes it ideal for fans traveling to our games.”
The Cardinal men will finish their third consecutive season at Arctic Edge in 2024-25; the women have called the rink home for each of the past two seasons.
“We’re so excited to begin our inaugural season at Arctic Edge,” Barlow said. “They run a top-notch business from the management, down to the cleaning staff and everyone in-between. Staff at the arena always make us feel welcome and are ready to help with anything they can as soon as we ask. The space provided for each team and offices for coaches is very ideal. I’m happy to make the rink our teams’ home away from home.”
