Both Lenawee County College Football Teams Lose Saturday

Adrian, MI – Both Lenawee County college football teams dropped their games this past weekend. Siena Heights University had a valiant comeback effort on homecoming vs. (RV) Saint Francis (I.L.), and Adrian College was handed their first loss of the season by rival Albion on the road.

Saints Strike Late, But Not Enough Versus Saint Francis…

The Siena Heights football team fell in its Homecoming game to Saint Francis (Ill.), 31-24, on Saturday at O’Laughlin Stadium.

Quarterback Elijah Taylor had a pair of touchdown passes, completing 26 of 36 throws for 280 yards. His top receiver was Tendaji Alexander, who made nine grabs for 130 yards.

Wide-outs Bailey Jackson and Chris Coleman had touchdown receptions. Jackson finished with five catches for 57 yards and Coleman totaled four for 47. Running back Brendan Haisenleder also had a touchdown on his 22 carries for 49 yards.

For the SHU defense, linebacker Jack Howey had eight tackles and fellow LB Tanner Rubinstein compiled seven tackles, including a sack. Defensive lineman George Talley and linebacker Joshua Mack recorded half-sacks.

Haisenleder scored on an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, helping SHU close a 14-point deficit to 14-7 before halftime. The Saints trailed 24-7 heading into the fourth before pulling into a one-score game. Carter Ball made a 24-yard field goal and Jackson scored on a 4-yard TD reception.

An onside kick with 2:03 left was returned for a TD by Saint Francis, giving the visitors a 31-17 lead. Coleman made a 12-yard TD catch with 42 seconds remaining before another SHU onside kick was recovered by Saint Francis. Siena Heights (1-5, 0-1 MSFA Mideast) will return to play on Saturday, Oct. 19, at MSFA Mideast opponent Lawrence Tech.

Bulldogs Lose First Game of 2024 Season to Rival Britons…

The Adrian College football team (4-1, 1-1 MIAA) fell to Albion College on the road on Saturday by a 38-27 score.

The Bulldogs received offensive touchdowns from Jalen Wallace, Ryan Brumley, and Trey Brueggemann in the loss. Adrian quarterback, Jake Kelbert, who went 36-46 and threw for two touchdowns and 220 yards on the day, set a new Bulldog program record for completions in a game (36). The previous record was held by Mike McGee, who made 33 completions on October, 30, 2010.

Shondel Hardnett led the Bulldogs with 54 rushing yards, while Wallace led in the receiving category with 13 receptions and 93 yards. Caid Fox finished right behind him in the air with 10 receptions for 81 yards. On defense, Trey Brueggemann and Dominick Louagie forced fumbles in the game and Quincy Dorsey had one interception and ran it in for a touchdown.

The Adrian College football team will enter a bye week and then return to the field on October 19 when they host Calvin at Docking Stadium for Family Weekend.
