
Adrian, MI – The bats were humming Wednesday afternoon for the Adrian College softball team, as they Bulldogs swept MIAA opponent University of Olivet at home. Pitching was also dominate in their 12-0 and 20-1 victories. The wins secured a spot in the MIAA postseason tournament, which is scheduled for May 9th and May 10th. Adrian could be anywhere from the #2 seed to #4 seed, depending on what happens in the final weekend of the conference schedule.
In game one, Adrian scored three runs off hits from Taylor Gerhardt and Peyton Russell. Four more runs were scored for the Bulldogs in the second inning as Karson Bagelmann, Maggie Leveille, and Hailey DeChalk all record hits to give Adrian a 7-0 lead. Adrian tacked on two more runs in the third inning off singles from Bagelmann and Gerhardt. In the fourth inning Ashley Meyers singled to right field and Abbie Hoff tripled to left field as Adrian took game one from the Comets 12-0.
To lead Adrian was Bagelmann with three hits, three runs scored, and three RBI’s. Gerhardt and Leveille both totaled two hits as Adrian recorded six stolen bases. Macee Schang was on the mound and earned the win allowing one hit and striking out four.
In game two Adrian exploded for 20 runs off of 22 hits. Russell led off with a double, Paige Stein added a single, and Alaina Craig totaled a hit to give Adrian a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Comets scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Adrian totaled nine runs in the second inning off hits from Leveille, Stein, Meghan Lupu, Makenzi Johnson, Bagelmann, and DeChalk. In the fourth inning Gerhardt recorded a single and Ava Ferrarelli hit a sacrifice fly to score Baglemann for two more runs, making the score 15-1 after four innings. In the Bulldogs last at bat, Hoff doubled, Emma Leonard singled, and Ashley Meyers recorded an RBI as Adrian won game two, 20-1.
Bagelmann led once again with four hits and four runs scored. 14 other Bulldogs recorded a hit in game two. Lupu led with three RBI’s as Adrian totaled six more stolen bases. Abbi Patton recorded her 15th win of the season allowing one hit and striking out five.
Adrian will travel to Kalamazoo for their final conference doubleheader at 1 & 3 PM on Saturday, May 4th.
