
Adrian, MI – Lenawee County high school football teams still alive in the MHSAA playoffs collected victories over the weekend, with Clinton capturing a District Championship and Lenawee Christian earning a Regional Title. Siena Heights University has a big day vs. Madonna to finish their home slate. Adrian College dropped their home finale to MIAA leader Alma.
Siena Heights Record-Setting Day…
Siena Heights running back Ethan LoPresto had a school-record four touchdowns as the Saints’ football team earned a 77-14 victory over MSFA Mideast opponent Madonna on Saturday at O’Laughlin Stadium. The 77 points, and kicker David Medvedik’s 10 extra-point kicks, were also school records.
LoPresto had three touchdowns on the ground and one through the air as he led a RB crew that totaled eight TDs. LoPresto finished with 15 carries for 36 yards.
Others who had rushing touchdowns for SHU (6-3, 4-2) included John Alexander (58), Nik Hammond (58), Brendan Haisenleder (50) and DeMario Young (7).
SHU quarterbacks Elijah Taylor and Justin McCown had two touchdown passes apiece. Taylor finished 10 of 17 for 181 yards while McCown was 3 of 3 for 56.
Wide receivers Eric Williams II and Credell Prather made four catches apiece for 87 and 81 yards, respectively. Prather (32) and fellow WRs Chris Coleman (23) and Bobby Opalewski (20) had touchdown receptions. LoPresto’s TD catch was from 11 yards out.
Defensive back Shamar Askin led the defense with seven tackles while linebacker Clarke Hamilton finished with a two tackles-for-loss, including a half-sack.
Joseph Wharton and Markel Main added solo sacks and lineman George Talley III was in on a half-sack. Wharton totaled three TFLs. Nico Fernandez and Tanner Rubenstein recovered fumbles.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11, with their regular-season finale at Marian.
Adrian College Falls to No.17 Alma…
The Adrian College football team held its final home game of the season against nationally ranked Alma College on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs honored its senior class along with the seniors from the marching band, cheerleading team, and dance team. The Bulldogs went on to lose the final home game of the season to the Scots, 45-24.
Alma opened up the scoring on their first offensive play with a 64-yard touchdown pass to lead 7-0. The Bulldogs quickly responded less than a minute later with an 84-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 7-7. Alma regained the lead returning the kickoff for 93 yards. After a Bulldog punt inside the ten-yard line, Tche Leroux intercepted a pass in the endzone to tie the game at 14-14. Alma held the Bulldogs scoreless in the second quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead 28-14 at the break.
In the second half, Alma added a touchdown and a field goal to enter the final quarter of play leading 38-14. Adrian didn’t quit as Alec Milley kicked a 30-yard field goal. Alma answered with a touchdown which was answered back by the final score of the game from Tyler Poirier on a 4-yard run.
Mark Lopez led the Bulldogs with 171 yards passing while Brady Raymond added 69 yards. Poirier totaled 67 yards rushing followed by 46 from Salvatore Patierno and 41 from Raymond. Alyjuuan Paris finished the day with eight receptions for 115 yards.
On defense, Randall Broome led the team with nine tackles, a forced fumble, and an 11-yard sack. Ryker Bidwell and Gauge Ginop each recorded eight tackles followed by seven from Brett Allen and Waides Ashmon.
The Bulldogs will complete their season on the road Saturday when they travel to The University of Olivet for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
Lenawee County High School Teams Continue Post Season Runs…
The Clinton Redwolves (10-1) hosted a Division 7 District Championship game Friday night vs Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central (6-5)…winning it 22-14. The first quarter saw two touchdowns scored by each team. Clinton had rushing touchdowns by Nik Shadely and Bryce Randolph. SMCC scored two TD’s in the first quarter as well. The difference in the first quarter was the the Redwolves converted two 2-point conversions, and SMCC kicked two extra points. Clinton led 16-14 after one quarter of play. There was no scoring until the fourth quarter, when the Redwolves scored on a Cole Breitenwischer TD run.
Clinton rushed for 260 yards on 36 carries. SMCC rushed for 154 yards on 37 carries and passed for 16 yards. Clinton was only penalized twice, which was a vast difference from the game before. Nik Shadley had 142 yards on 11 carries and scored a 78 yard touchdown on the second play of the game. Bryce Randolph punched in the two point conversion. Jake Felts had 52 yards on 12 carries and a two point conversion. Bryce Randolph had 37 yards on 5 carries and had a 26 yard touchdown. Cole Breitenwischer had 29 yards on 7 carries and a 10 yard touchdown. Andy Fair was 2 for 5 passing for 10 yards, with Nik Shadley catching both passes.
Bryce Randolph led the defense with 14 tackles, Wyatt Hicks had 9 tackles, Jake Felts and Teddy Pizio had 6 tackles each. Bryce Rosacrans and Wyatt Hicks each had a sack.
During the week the Division 7 All Region Team was chosen. Clinton had six players chosen to be on the all region team. Wyatt Hicks and Nate Page for all region offensive line, Nik Shadley for all region offensive back, Cole Breitenwischer for all region linebacker, Teddy Pizio for all region defensive line, and to Joey Preston for all region defensive back.
This Friday Clinton will travel to Jackson Lumen Christi for the Regional Championship game at 7pm.
In Adrian, the Lenawee Christian Cougars (11-0) cruised in the second half to another resounding win… 56 16. The Cougars will be at home this Saturday for the Semi Final game vs. Deckerville at 1pm.
