The NBA’s Board of Governors approved 2 rule changes during a meeting yesterday, with the rules set to go in effect this upcoming season.
Both rule changes had been unanimously recommended to the board of governors by the league’s competition committee — a group made up of players, union representatives, coaches, governors, executives and referees.
The 1st rule change allows a coach to have a 2nd challenge during a contest if their 1st challenge is deemed successful. The 2nd challenge would result in the loss of a timeout, no matter if it was successful or not.
The 2nd rule change is a flopping penalty where if a player is called for a flop, there will be a non-unsportsmanlike technical foul called on the offending players’ team, and the opposing team will get a free throw. The call will also not have to be called right away by refs, and can be called the next stop in live action.
