Adrian, MI – Both collegiate football teams in Adrian were in action Saturday, with the Adrian College Bulldogs picking up an easy Homecoming win…and the Siena Heights University Saints suffering a close loss on the road.

AC hosted Finlandia University, and came ready to play as they demolished the Lions 73-13. 73 points is the second most point scored in a single game in program history. The Dawgs scored 77 against Husson University in 2011.

Aaron Jenkins started the scoring with a 19-yard run to lead 7-0. Kenny Kujawa then ran back a punt 64 yards to score and make it 14-0 with less than five minutes played. Walker Evans kicked a 29-year field goal to extend the lead which was followed by touchdowns from Waides Ashmon on an interception return and Tyler Poirier on a 34-yard reception to lead 31-0 after the first quarter.

Shenard Foster started the second quarter with a 28-yard touchdown run to keep things going which was backed by a 17-yard reception for a touchdown from Cole Seslar, and a 2-yard run from Jimmie Clark at the end of the half. The Bulldogs led 52-0 at the break.

Ben Coloske caught a 9-yard pass to make it 59-0 before Finlandia finally got themselves on the board. In the fourth quarter, Keshawn Charlot score a 13-yard touchdown to make it 66-6. Finlandia scored again with 6:37 to go in the game, but Adrian kept up the offense. Taj Williams rushed in a touchdown from the one-yard line to cap off the 73-13 victory.

Adrian finished with 495 yards of total offense with 340 coming on the ground. The Bulldogs had nine different rushers during the game led by Clark who finished with 81 yards on eight attempts. Salvatore Patierno was next with 71 yards on nine attempts.

The Bulldogs will begin conference play next weekend on the road as they travel to Hope College for a 3pm game. You can catch that contest on 103.9fm, or by streaming at wlen.com.

JOLIET, Ill. – The Siena Heights football team gave up nine points in the second half to fall 19-14 to St. Francis (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon in Joliet, Illinois.

The Saints scored a late touchdown in the second half to take a 14-10 lead into the locker room at the half but were held scoreless during the second half as the Fighting Saints held off Siena Heights to secure the five-point win.

Michael Guyton had a day for the Saints as he hauled in eight catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. Kaleb Jefferson rushed for 50 yards and a score, while Jamon Benson II led on the ground with 54 yards. Kole Murlin led the defense with 15 tackles and contributed to the team’s only sack. Andrew McGaughy finished with eight tackles and a quarterback hurry.

Kaleb Jefferson gave the SHU Saints a 7-0 lead early after a four-yard touchdown run at 10:28 in the first quarter.

A 21-yard field goal in the second quarter cut the lead to four points before a 28-yard touchdown pass with 3:35 left in the half gave the Fighting Saints their first lead of the game at 10-7.

Ryan Minor was three-for-three on the next drive to move the ball down the field and take the lead after a 15-yard touchdown strike to Michael Guyton flipped the score to 14-10 in favor of the Saints.

A safety and then a 78-yard kick return for a touchdown gave St. Francis (Ill.) a 19-14 lead with 12:24 left in the third quarter.

The Saints had a drive stopped on downs deep in USF territory and turned the ball over in a later drive to thwart an opportunity to regain the lead.

The final drive for SHU started with 1:49 remaining in the game. Siena Heights moved to the Fighting Saints’ 31-yard line, but Minor’s pass was picked off in the endzone as time expired.

The Saints return home to host nationally-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.) next Saturday, October 1 for the 2022 Siena Heights Homecoming Game at noon. The game will be broadcast live on 96.5fm The Cave, and streamed on 965thecave.com.
