East Lansing, MI – Lenawee County will be well-represented at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center in Girls Basketball Thursday, as the Lenawee Christian Cougars and Blissfield Royals have both punched their tickets to the MHSAA semi finals.

The Cougars defeated Hackett 49-36 Tuesday night. Isabelle Kirkendall continued her high scoring output…leading the Cougars in scoring with 23 points. Kirkendall also finished with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Selah Clymer had 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Avery Sluss filled-out the stat sheet as well, finishing with 8 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 steals. LCS will play Maple City Glen Lake at the Breslin Center in East Lansing at 7:30pm Thursday. Jeff Bowman will be on the call for 96.5fm The Cave and 965thecave.com.

The Royals defeated Ovid-Elsie Tuesday night, 45-41. Freshman Leigh Wyman lead Blissfield with 17 points and 6 steals. Avery Collins chipped-in 10 points and 4 steals. Julie White finished the game with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Here is what Blissfield coach Ryan Gilbert had to say about the game:

“Wasn’t our best day at the office. Gritty not Pretty win tonight. O-E was an extreme match up problem for us. They handled the ball much better than we thought and made timely buckets all night. In the end it was our defense in the 4th holding them to 6 points and another big time steal and score from Avery Collins in crunch time. For most of the game we just grinded…It was tough out there. Lanes were clogged, shots not falling, so we couldn’t get our pressure going. The only outside shot we hit all night was a buzzer beater 3 to end the 3rd quarter from Avery Collins from 5 feet behind the three point line. That’s it. The rest from the line and in the paint. Freshman sensation Leigh Wyman had her biggest game on the biggest stage. 17 points 6 steals. She carried us most the night. Julia White added 9 points and 11 big time rebounds. I felt like they (OE) were one basket away for most of the night to taking complete control. We just kept getting baskets at the right moments and none of them bigger than the the 3 at the 3rd quarter buzzer to tie it up and switch momentum by Avery Collins and again with 40 seconds left with the steal and old fashioned three point play as she got hit and finished the shot then hit the free throw. Then two gigantic rebounds one by Julia White and another on the next possession with a great backside blockout by June Miller. Who then iced the game with a free throw to put us up 4.”

Blissfield will play Madison Heights Bishop Foley in the Division 3 MHSAA semi final at 12 Noon tomorrow in East Lansing. The Cave will be at that game as well.
