Sha’kyia Parker’s Career Day Leads Siena Basketball Past Rochester

Adrian, MI – The Siena Heights University Women’s Basketball team played host to Rochester University Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse in Adrian. The Saints honored the many women instrumental to the school’s academic and athletic success with a Title IX 50th anniversary celebration at halftime of their game against WHAC foe Rochester.

The first quarter did not go too well for SHU, as they committed 10 turnovers, which helped the visitors jump out to a 17-13 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Siena picked-up their scoring in the second quarter, with the all-time points leader in program history Payton Banks netting 12 points…while the Saints outscored the Warriors 23-20. SHU trailed at halftime by a tally of 37-36.

Rochester came out red-hot in the third stanza, building their lead to 61-51 heading into the final quarter. Sha’kyia Parker had nearly half of her career high 31 in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points… leading Siena Heights to the win, 79-74. The Saints outscored the Warriors in the 4th quarter, 28-13.

The victory put the Saints at 5-1 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play, and drops Rochester to 5-1.

SHU will be back in action on Saturday, December 10 at Cornerstone University.
