Adrian, MI – As we settle in for Thanksgiving weekend, one of the things sports fans can be thankful for this weekend is the return of college basketball.  As I have grown older, I don’t follow it like I once did as a teenager and during my early adult years.  However, I have always found myself rooting for both the Michigan Wolverines and the MSU Spartans.

Long ago, I would watch on TV to see the exploits of players such as Rickey Green, Steve Grote, Phil Hubbard, Greg Kelser, Magic Johnson, Scott Skiles, Rumeal Robinson, The Fab 5, The Flinstones.  I remember watching the NCAA Championship games in 1979, 1989, and 2000 when these schools brought home NCAA titles for their schools and fan bases.

Last March, on the verge of conference tournaments and the Big Dance, college teams and their fans were dealt the blow of those events being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Michigan was on the floor in Indianapolis warming up for their game when the tournament was canceled and a short time later, March Madness was shut down completely.

We watched the Michigan Wolverines defeat Bowling Green, 96-82.  The Michigan State University Spartans took down Eastern Michigan, 83-67.  Let’s hope that we are just at the beginning of a college hoops season with minimal interruptions and cancellations, with plenty of tournament action for men and women come next March and April.

For that college basketball fans would be truly thankful!  Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiviing everyone!
